The housemates woke up to a surprise yesterday morning as the Big Brother House underwent its most dramatic transformation yet, rebranded into Eyecon Industries for the first shopping task of the series.
Gathered in the Living Area, Big Brother addressed the Housemates with an announcement: “Housemates. This is no longer Big Brother, this is Big Boss. You are now employed as factory workers at my brand-new business venture Eyecon Industries. Workers, your job in the factory will be to manufacture eyeballs. You must make enough eyeballs to reach my production target. However, the target number of eyeballs is confidential and is sealed inside an envelope in my office. If the target is reached you will be rewarded with a luxury shopping budget.”
But the task came with more than just the shopping budget on the line. Big Brother revealed that the workers would also be earning wages in a brand-new in-house currency – eyes. These wages can be exchanged during their time in the House for treats, privileges and even advantages that could shape the course of the game.
For the day’s challenge, roles were assigned across the production line. Teja took control of transporting eyes between departments in the factory delivery vehicle, while Sam, Cameron, Marcus and Jenny set about filling eyeball moulds with the special liquid required to bring them to life. On the next stage of the line, Cameron B, Tate, Zelah and Caroline assembled the eyeballs before passing them on to Gani, Nancy, Elsa and Feyisola, who were tasked with painting each one to perfection. Finally, George and Richard acted as inspectors, charged with approving only those eyeballs that met Big Brother’s high standards.
The task brought with it the first taste of workplace politics inside the House. Gani clashed with Sam after feeling mocked during a conversation in the bedroom, telling him: “Sam, while I’m speaking, why do you laugh? That’s disrespect, do you know that?” Sam quickly tried to smooth things over, insisting, “It wasn’t laughing at you. It was just the awkwardness I laughed at. It wasn’t personal.” But Gani wasn’t convinced, admitting, “Well, I felt it like it was personal.”
Tensions also surfaced later in the bathroom, where Cameron B confided in George about the fallout from the day’s revelations. George advised caution, telling him: “But Cameron, I wouldn’t fall out with Tate over this. Also, that wouldn’t work in your favour from a playing the game point of view.”
With wages, shopping budgets and House pride all at stake, the cracks are already starting to show. The question now is whether Eyecon Industries will unite the Housemates in teamwork- or drive an even deeper wedge between them.
