Need low stress TV and film recommendations

Cooperboom32 · 14/09/2025 21:22

Hi everyone
Im looking for some low stress but still interesting/funny films and TV series which are not too intense. My usual watch would normally be thrillers and edge of your seat type films but I've found recently that they make me quite stressed out and overwhelmed potentially hormone related as I'm pregnant with DC2.
For example tonight I'm watching while you were sleeping so thinking of going down the rom com/ drama.route but would like a list for the lead up and for mat leave.
Any.recommendations would.be appreciated.

Gilmore Girls

Virgin River

LnicMJ · 14/09/2025 21:39

Try 'The Detectorists' I find this a really good light hearted British series x

TheFatCatSatOnTheMat · 14/09/2025 22:04

The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society. (Awful title, lovely film).

Priceless (must be over 20 years old but it’s a fun, light French film that still sparkles).

Call My Agent (the French original is better than the UK remake but both are fun)

North and South (if you like period drama)

All Creatures Great and Small (channel 5)

Jury Duty (on Amazon Prime, hilarious and James Marsden sends himself up wonderfully)

Schitts Creek

Channel 5: Nashville, The Good Wife, The Puzzle Lady
Netflix: Fisk, Pernille (may be, lead is a child protection social worker, so we get glimpses into her work and she's mourning a recently dead sister)

Parenthood on Netflix.

“Here We Go” on iPlayer.

RedRiverShore5 · 17/09/2025 19:27

Heartland, series 18 is on now if you have been watching it.

A Place To Call Home is easy watching

Oh yes, it's one of my favourite series.

Julia (Sarah Lancashire)

glotterbug · 17/09/2025 19:40

My life with the Walter boys! Bit of teen type romcom!

SapatSea · 17/09/2025 19:40

Desperate Housewives, the Good Wife, period dramas

Larrylobstersrollerskate · 17/09/2025 19:42

Agree with all creatures great and small on Ch 5 and The Detectorists and it’s ridiculous but DD and I have been enjoying The Discovery of Witches on streaming for pure escapism. I also enjoyed Motherland comedy series.

somewhereintheworld · 17/09/2025 20:00

Chesapeake Shores is good.

Cooperboom32 · 17/09/2025 22:08

Thank you these suggestions are great 🙂

Sweet Magnolias on Netflix is good for me but my bar is very low 😂

Silverbirchleaf · 17/09/2025 22:33

Shakespeare and Hathaway - cozy mystery series, fifth series about to broadcast (can’t wait), absolutely brilliant,

FirstCuppa · 17/09/2025 22:39

I had a few months like this and Korean films ticked my boxes. You can get a fair amount of comfy cooking, culture, comedy, romance in one film usually - most are directed by women so the characters always seem deeper than the American stuff.

If you want something completely bonkers "Behind your touch" will have you laughing in a confused way while enjoying a thriller that actually has some good twists. Bonkers though as I say.

tumpymummy · 17/09/2025 23:07

A bit late to the party but I am now hooked on 'The summer I turned pretty'.

CaveMum · 17/09/2025 23:22

You can’t go wrong with The West Wing, in my opinion.

Otherwise if you want funny you could try What We Do in the Shadows (iPlayer) or even seek out the old Classics like The Good Life, Porridge, Fawlty Towers, Yes Minister, etc.

ITVX has a load of Agatha Christie both Poirot and Marple which is engaging yet still quite ‘gentle’ viewing if that makes sense? I’ve had a recent full on binge and absolutely loved it all 😊 some newer remakes of Christie available on Disney+ with Kenneth Branagh are also fab.

definitely second the vote for Detectorists too!!!! It’s awesome.

Only Murders is good too (also Disney+)
