Why did John Barrowman hate Jessie so much?

We were all really intrigued in our household as to why John Barrowman seemed to really have it in for Jessie in I'd do anything. There was obviously something behind his animosity to her. He wanted her out,Out,OUT!

At least she will have the public's sympathy now. She's still lined up for big things in the West End, you can count on it. Now they will have TWO shows that can pull in crowds with a name. IYSWIM. I think Aoife from Cork who lost last year went on to play Roxy. So it's not as big a deal as she probably feels it is, the moment she hears she's lost and is sobbing her eyes out.

I am going to sound very mean now, but I think Jodie needs to lose a few kilos before she is leading lady material .

So did I, she whinged whinged whinged from start to finish. Every week when the panel gave their views she was always ready with the "but I'm young, but I'm Irish, but I've had a hard week, but I've had a sore throat" She'd have done better on X-factor or BGT where they go for a sob story.

But she has so much more going on "behind the eyes" than Sam (who John obviously wanted to win) who seemed to have a porcelain doll quality and no capacity to actually move an audience.

Jessie clearly isn't old enough to deal with the pressure and stress. "Taking direction" was a big deal and she didn't really demonstrate that she could do it, and yet wanted to play on the "I am a raw talent so need your input card". Just wouldn't have worked.

PuppyMonkey · 01/06/2008 13:01

Could it just be that he thought she wasn't very good?

She wasn't that good actually... the right person won

belgo · 01/06/2008 13:04

Jessie couldn't act, dance or do a cockney accent. And emotionally she probably wasn't ready. But she could sing and had 'star quality'.

The right person proably won.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/06/2008 13:09

Maybe it was the lopsided mouth that he found offputting .

Of course the right person for the role got booted last week, so it was never going to be a perfect ending.

tortoiseSHELL · 01/06/2008 13:10

Jodie was dreadful though. She certainly couldn't act, and her 'professional northerner' act really grated!

Lizzylou · 01/06/2008 13:13

I found Jessie really irritating, tbh. She seemed uncomfortable a lot of the time and her posture was awful. I found her annoying after the first two shows.
I liked Jodie, every week she went away and worked on the areas that the panel highlighted.
She was the "safe" vote imo

WanderingTrolley · 01/06/2008 13:17

Jessie went to the Dick Van Dyke School of Cawknee. She couldn't sing an 's'. She had the grace of a bricklayer. Great voice but too young, couldn't dance or act.

Cameron Macintosh: "I'm thrilled for Jodie." Miaow

I think JB just liked Jodie more - I think he couldn't imagine sharing a stage with a woman made of wood, lisping her way around a London dialect. And she was a bit whiny.

PuppyMonkey · 01/06/2008 13:32

Just listening to Judy Garland singing The Man who got away.... now THAT'S a voice!

LauraT · 02/06/2008 10:34

I agree, think it was because he felt she couldn't act. there's never enough emphasis on the acting in these shows - she had a beautiful singing voice and I thought her as long as he needs me was amazing, but everytime they did an acting challenge, in the breif glimpse we got of it she seemed to be absolutely terrible - perhaps the reason she had failed to get into drama school twice?
