Documentary about the life and work of Dr Henry Marsh - loosely based on his memoir Do No Harm.

It’s both humble and humbling. A good hour of TV. There’s a lot of footage of surgery- bring a cushion to hide behind if you don’t like blood.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. What a wonderful human being he is.

I was fascinated by this programme. I’ve worked as a scrub nurse, so I’ve met an array of surgeons. It was illuminating to hear him talk from his perspective.

Well worth a watch.

It was an extraordinary piece of television. Utterly brilliant.

StressyMcStressFace · 20/08/2025 13:20

Sounds like my kinda thing. I love to watch a bit of TV surgery! Where can I watch it?

Yachtingaroundtheworldiwish · 20/08/2025 13:28

It was on BBC 2, so probably on iPlayer.

great tv. I very much appreciated how he accepted his historical mistakes in personal life and took responsibility for them. Lots of people cannot do that.

I had previously listened to a couple of his books via audible see below. The second one Admissions is narrated by Henry himself. If I recall, they were very interesting and so I intend to re listen to them having seen the programme on iplayer.

I thought it a fascinating and thought provoking piece of tv. One of the best things i have watched in ages, and very emotional.

fixingmylife · 20/08/2025 19:00

Loved it. Thought it was moving. I cried at the end actually.

FurForksSake · 20/08/2025 19:03

It was a really, really well made documentary. I’d have watched hours of it. It was very interesting just how introspective he was, the meeting with the mother was obviously very healing on both sides.

vicarlady · 20/08/2025 19:37

This was a very good programme. So moving - such humility.

Yes, his ability to recognise and reflect upon his past mistakes is a very mature human characteristic. Very few people do it well.Henry seemed to di it do graciously.

Loved it, love his books too.

I stumbled across the programme whilst flicking through channels and am so glad I watched it. So well done. It takes a lot of courage to reflect honestly on your own shortcomings and mistakes, especially to do it publicly. Politicians take note!

He’s an amazing man.
I’m so glad I watched it.

I was looking forward to this coming out and then found I couldn't watch it. Finally watched it today. Absolutely fascinating person and his reflections, but the production was so very well-done too.

I would love to hear more from the women in his life (past and present).
