Just read the BBC announcement that there’s going to be a Christmas special this year.
Really, and sadly, thought we’d seen the end of this after Simon Carlyle died.

Excellent news.

Very pleased about this. I've just watched all the rest of it on iPlayer.

Enjoyed that! Already got tickets for the stage show next year.

Watched it last night and really enjoyed it. Lovely humour.

Very much up to the usual standard. Loved it.

Three weeks ago, DD3 mentioned that she and her partner had been binge-watching old episodes of Two Doors Down, and the next thing I knew we were on the website looking for tickets. We didn't have a lot of choice even then, it's obviously popular.

Aw no, it’s only in Glasgow!

TheChosenTwo · 26/12/2025 18:16

Caught up with this earlier and I was so disappointed!
It sounded like the cast had all been told to
slow down their speaking to stretch out the script so the episode was the right length. Just all sounded a bit off and stilted. Although thought it was just quite a weak premise for an episode - well it started off quite well but Cathy and Christine were really lacking, the dialogue didn’t come across as quick or witty to me. Beth seemed a bit more bad tempered (to be fair that’s understandable).
Dunno, definitely felt let down by it, such a shame as I was looking forward to it.

I agree with this.

I agree with this.

Me too, I didn't laugh out loud once and I so wanted to enjoy it. The Christmas special in the coffee shop (not sure what year it was) was hilarious

I agree too. It felt to me like none of their hearts were in it and the storyline was a bit rubbish.

Rightyotime · 27/12/2025 09:23

I thought it was ok. Not hilarious but still enjoyable. I was disappointed they made Gordon get angry though. I love his lovable character who is always eager to please.

PrincessofEuphrania · 11/01/2026 17:37

Just watched this and was very disappointed. I thought it was depressingly bad!

foxlover47 · 11/01/2026 23:53

I loved it , I watch the series on repeat as my comfort watch
of if I didn’t have my dogs and my teen I would be booking tickets to Glasgow to watch it live
Christine is always my favourite

Fransgran · 12/01/2026 12:39

I loved the Christmas episode too. I have two happy places on televison. In one, I am roaming the countryside with Lance, Andy and my imaginary metal detector in search of hidden gold. In the other, I move to Glasgow and into the house I've bought from Iqbal and Ash who couldn't stomach the the doughnut and junk food ethos any longer. Once I've unpacked, I'll go round to Beth and Eric's with a tub of celebrations and introduce myself. One episode of either Detectorists of Two Doors Down always cheers me up.

ThatsPlentyIsa · 12/01/2026 13:23

i absolutely love Two Doors Down, but the scripts have lost some of the edgier humour that it had in the beginning - maybe inevitably, given changing sensibilities, maybe because of losing Simon Carlyle? It’s been 50% eye rolling reaction shots for a while now, and Cathy’s entire dialogue in the Christmas special was just insults.

I don’t know if they’ve reconsidered carrying on, but a bigger story arc would shake things up a bit, if it forced the characters to do more than just turn up on Beth’s doorstep and run through their usual schtick - it was a shame Anne-Marie was airbrushed from history so quickly, when that love triangle could have really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons. Maybe the live show will spring some surprises…

Rightyotime · 12/01/2026 14:38

Yes. I loved Anne-Marie. Thought she was as good as Cathy tbh
