I especially love it when the baby comes out looking like it’s just had its first birthday.

Yup I had a baby whose entire face looked bruised and a baby whose nose was flat to her face all the ones on tv are lovely pink faces no blood (unless it's for dramatic effect) it's hilarious

There's never any problems with child care.

Caterpillargirl23 · 04/07/2025 19:00

Parking is always available outside wherever they want to be.

Ever expanding houses (HOW many people live in Meredith Grey’s house and all seemingly have their own room?)

SunflowerLife · 04/07/2025 19:01

Bad accents from actors who think they have nailed it but in reality sound diabolical. This City is Ours, I'm looking at you.
Also during a birth scene when the baby is either a plastic doll or a 2 month old blood and gunge free.

THIS! A nanny or babysitter gets mentioned once and are then assumed to be on hand 24/7 without complaint.

Modern hairstyles/make-up in period dramas.

Surgically enhanced modern faces often take me out of period dramas too. It just doesn’t look right.

People folding up washing from the laundry basket, and it looks worse than before.
When there has been a burglary, and everything smashed and thrown everywhere,
Within the hour the room is back to normal as if nothing has happened.

MK1's in pre 1951 scenes (British Railways Standard Carriage Design)

They used the wrong mark of Spitfire in Land Girls - so my wife says

Everythings clean & not covered in soot in period scenes

Chaffeur walking in front of the car

Etc...........

I watched Murders in Steeltown the other day. One scene, set in 1973, featured a Class 56 in Large Logo livery. With the logo backwards!

When the police go to question someone and they carry on with what they are doing, or just walk off.

booknerdhead · 04/07/2025 19:05

Actors pouring a thimbleful of tea or coffee into a cup and handing it over.

Lins77 · 04/07/2025 19:05

Giving birth.

Phone conversations that last two seconds but apparently manage to impart all relevant information.

Caterpillargirl23 · 04/07/2025 19:06

Police interviewing women (never men) who carry on hanging the washing out, surely they wouldn't bother with the washing if the police needed to talk to them.

TimeFliesin2046 · 04/07/2025 19:06

The fact that Jessica Fletcher finds herself in the midst of a murder wherever she goes, and that anyone would even attempt to commit a murder when she was around knowing her reputation.

wafflesmgee · 04/07/2025 19:06

How clean their houses always are and lack of general life admin

PsylliumHusky · 04/07/2025 19:09

Fake chewing when they are fake eating.

Getting out of bed in the morning after a massive sex session, putting on the clothes from the night before and leaving straight away to go to work. No teeth brushing, face washing, showering, toileting, changing of clothes, brushing of hair..

Arcadia · 04/07/2025 19:09

Children (already making no noise) being sent off to go and play in their rooms, and going quietly without arguing!

SpikeGilesSandwich · 04/07/2025 19:10

Tv kids just play nicely or disappear from screen so the plot can develop. In reality, they’d be constantly interrupting/needing food/bottoms wiping etc. Hmm

thistimelastweek · 04/07/2025 19:10

Failure to ask the one very very obvious question that would solve the case in the first episode.

ARichtGoodDram · 04/07/2025 19:10

Never any issues with childcare, unless it's a specific storyline.

Never any issues with evening childcare to go to the pub (even if you're skint!)

Everyone knows what everything in the pub or shop costs and just hands over the right money without the person serving saying "£12.70" or the likes.

Family who've moved away don't come back ever. No matter who dies or how seriously ill their child is or whatever. They're gone.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 04/07/2025 19:11

@Arcadiacross-post! Grin

WaneyEdge · 04/07/2025 19:12

Everyone always has everyone else’s phone number. I do not and never have had the phone numbers of any of my neighbours.

The way no one in Eastenders/Corrie ever goes into London or Manchester for shopping or work. Everything they will ever need in their lives can be bought on the one street they live on. They will always get a job in the hairdresser/garage/cafe/nail salon/factory/mini mart/pub despite not being qualified or having any experience in these roles.

ninjahamster · 04/07/2025 19:13

Tardis Houses. Soaps are the worst for this. They’ll have like a tiny kitchen and living room downstairs but about 6/8 people living there. Where do they sleep?

Smokesandeats · 04/07/2025 19:13

Perfect teeth and no grey/white hair on women over 40 in period dramas.
