I was born in 1973 so this is like a look back on my youth. But omg the way the police spoke to the woman that was raped is still with me today (I watched the first 1.5 episodes yesterday). Anyone else watching? It’s well worth it

Just saw this mentioned in the Guardian, will definitely check it out , love his previous docs

you always think we’ve made a lot of progress in 50 yrs - it shows is that a lot is still very much the same! So refreshing to watch a documentary without commentary

I've been waiting for this to come out - will go and watch it now and report back.

I have no nostalgia for my childhood - it was full of violence - domestic, school based and amongst men.

I think we are slowly going backwards in lots of ways, but haven't quite reached 70s levels yet. (give it time though!)

We lived in London so my childhood memories are of IRA bombings and the Brixton riots (and Charles/diana wedding!)

I've just listened to an interview with Adam on the rest is entertainment so I think its definitely worth a watch although I'm worried it will depress me about the future even more 😂

HotCrossBunplease · 27/06/2025 19:03

Agreed, on everything- born 1973, Rest is Entertainment feature amazing, being very shocked by the police interview.

It is an excellent series.

Absolutely brilliant series! I have watched his other series too.i actually miss his commentary- spoken rather than in words. The sound track is excellent too. The 70s and 80s seem like a different world - although a familiar one (born in 1980).

Check out his interview on PoliticsJoe podcast too. I was fascinated by his observations like how people in the future will wonder why we were so obsessed with spending time listening to the laughter of the dead!!! And how after the election of Thatcher, the liberal/left retreated into culture. In my head I see him as a hooded figure standing watch over humanity, never interfering just watching!
