S1 thread

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/tellyaddicts/4903622-black-snow-sat-bbc-4-9pm-tv-pace-no-spoilers

The show is returning for a second season after debuting to critical and fan acclaim when it premiered back in 2022.

Season one was a gritty exploration of a cold case that took place within an Australian South Sea Islander community in northern Queensland.
It was undoubtedly a shining star in Australia's booming local movie and television industry, so it will come as no surprise that Stan green-lit a second season.

At the end of Black Snow (https://www.mamamia.com.au/black-snow-trailer/) season one, the case surrounding the death of teenager Isabel Baker was solved and put to rest thanks to the work of troubled
detective James Cormack, played by
Travis Fimmel. (https://www.mamamia.com.au/travis-fimmel/)

Taylor (the mastermind behind the Black Snow universe) tells me that season two will focus on a missing person's case that is told over two timelines.

In 2003, we were introduced to a young woman named Zoe who was outspoken about her progressive opinions. She's built a reputation for being passionate about social justice and political issues — a brazen attitude that hasn't always put her in the best stead with her local community.

And then.... she goes missing and hasn't been seen since.

Fast-forward to the present day and Detective Cormack has been placed on the case of solving what happened to Zoe. Given the acute rise in gendered violence in Australia, I pressed Executive Producer Rosemary Blight on how they're handling this sensitive subject matter in the new season.

lightness and brevity to Cormack as he gets closure from solving the case of Isabel Baker.

Is this a sign that season two will be somewhat of a path toward healing for our complicated hero?
In short: no.
"I don't think Cormack is as professional as he was in the first season," Fimmel told me. "He's still very tortured."

This season we're going to learn more about the disappearance of his brother.

New evidence comes to light, and he questions whether he should give up his professional endeavours to focus on a personal quest to find his brother.

Oh, and his father is released from prison, which stirs up some big feelings.
"He still has his issues and, if anything, they get stronger on a very rocky road with his father," he says.

"This season we really delve into Cormack's background, his issues with his family, his dad, his mum and his brother."

While pursuing the case of his missing brother, this begins to intersect with his plight to find Zoe.

"I think Cormack has been trying to avoid his own tortured path and his own pain and trying to make it about somebody else so he can avoid his own stuff."

But once again, it looks like things are about to get messy and if you think there's respite on the horizon for Cormack — think again.

I veer from being quite attracted to james to thinking he looks quite crazy!(his eyes, although a fabulous colour can look quite scary)
Google.tells me he was a model for Calvin klein

TessTickle0 · 30/04/2025 09:23

I think I know whodunit but like I've said above spend most of the time flipping between "oh he's hot" to "oh he's not!" So get distracted lol.
Love his character and he has some good funny lines, the series is good but does drag alittle and without him...nah.

E5 tonight. I never seen to watch on a Fri

the field of suspects narrows and evidence is found on a computer

I am late to the party! Over the past two weeks I’ve binge watched all of series 1 and most of series 2. Just finished episode 5 so I’m level with this thread 😊

I love the programme! The style of it and the background music reminds me a lot of the nordic crime dramas. Hoping for a series 3.

So, to the end of episode 5 - and I believe there’s only one more to come - I have three suspects in my mind:
Sean’s mother, to protect Sean from stalking Zoe.
Zoe’s uncle, to protect the business, seems that Zoe had worked out the Sapphire connection.
Cody’s mother, who seems to be missing with her kids. Could Zoe have tried to help them escape the abusive partner and something gone wrong.

There’s a fourth possibility that the body will turn out to be Cody’s mother! And that Zoe is in fact still alive. I’m not sure what could have happened to cause that outcome but I hope that will be the ending, that she is alive.

We also are waiting to find out who is making the phone calls, also why I think she may still be alive.

We will see next Friday! Unless I give in and watch it online before then.

paranoiaofpufflings · 03/05/2025 01:36

Oh - silly me - have realised I’ve only watched four episodes not five. Will stay away until I’ve done episode 5!

deeahgwitch · 03/05/2025 09:31

My suspects are:
Sean’s mother - to protect her political ambitions and oh ! her son.
But it seems so obvious
Zoe’s uncle - he just seems dodgy to me. But perhaps that’s the way he was directed to act, to mislead the viewers. Smile
Zoe’s stepmother- she’s up to her eyes in the development business plus at the time of Zoe’s disappearance was having an affair with Zoe’s father.

moto748e · 03/05/2025 16:37

I watched eps 4 & 5 last night. It's pretty good, but I could do without all the self-harming.

Sean’s mother is a piece of work, and I don't trust Zoe's father either.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/05/2025 20:55

I dithering between Sean’s mum and Zoe’s uncle - he’s been sober for 20yrs - same time as she’s been missing

I hope it’s not him as family

OP posts:
moto748e · 03/05/2025 22:18

It's always family, innit?

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/05/2025 22:43

Hope not

OP posts:
deeahgwitch · 04/05/2025 07:50

You could be right re Zoe’s father @moto748e

paranoiaofpufflings · 04/05/2025 11:04

It wasn’t family in the first series, it was the dad of the boyfriend. Which actually now I write that makes me think they wouldn’t use the same outcome again, so I’m ruling out Sean’s mum!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/05/2025 18:46

So uncle then

Well that saved me 40 minutes of my life. Thanks.
That's how long was left in the last episode of the first series. I turned it off five minutes ago, as I couldn't take any more.
Must be me, everyone else seemed to think it was brilliant, including TV critics.
