Good box set to watch with kids

Ds4 is having an operation on Wednesday and dh has to work away next weekend. Looking for a good box set to watch with ds4 (11) and ds5 (10).

No or minimal swearing/sex references because 10 year old has autism and echolalia so will repeat everything and then I will be in trouble with the school. Not too funny or ds4 will burst his stitches.

We have iplayer, YouTube and a DVD player. I think we have itvx and 4 on demand but not sure.

We have watched morcambe and wise, dad's army, some mothers do have em and home improvement. We watched the 90's version of the demon headmaster which they really liked too.

How about 'A series of unfortunate events' on Netflix? Mine loved it at that age. Or 'Ghosts' on BBC.

vetprob · 30/03/2025 19:28

We've watched The Darling Buds of May and All Creatures Great and Small series with ours. Nice, gentle stories with some laughs thrown in.

FlowchartRequired · 30/03/2025 21:22

If they liked Dad's Army, how about 'Allo 'Allo?

vetprob · 30/03/2025 22:08

Oh, the Good Life is great too. We have it on DVD not sure if it's streaming anywhere.

Dellspoem · 30/03/2025 22:10

Modern family, love watching it with my family.

Ineffable23 · 30/03/2025 22:10

Jeeves and Wooster?

I think I also liked the Bergerac crime series about that age.

elliejjtiny · 30/03/2025 22:13

Thank you, these are great. I'm happy to buy the DVD of anything if it means I can get through the weekend in one piece.

Ghosts? Not sure about swearing, but don’t think it’s terrible. My daughter loves it!

mogtheexcellent · 30/03/2025 22:19

Blandings is funny as is jeeves and wooster.

Dd10 adores Ghosts but don't watch the US version as it has a lot of sex references. Otherwise we are watching Death in Paradise, Beyond Paradise and Ludwig (murder mysteries are a hit). And weirdly, Sort your life out.

BunnyRuddington · 30/03/2025 22:22

Definitely Ghosts.

How about the Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Fishneedscycle · 30/03/2025 22:29

My DD loved Merlin at that age

drspouse · 30/03/2025 22:29

My 10 year old DD has just finished watching Young Sheldon with me. DS is 13 and it isn't his cup of tea but he reports one of the boys in his class likes it.

I think we might watch Malcolm in the Middle too. DS likes Alex Rider.

BottomlessBrunch · 30/03/2025 22:31

Our kids loved Merlin at that age as well

Rainallnight · 30/03/2025 23:01

We all enjoyed Man Vs Bee on Netflix.

HappyHedgehog247 · 30/03/2025 23:05

We loved all creatures great and small when recuperating. Gentle and homely. Not sure if funny enough.

For a non-funny series (to keep the stitches in place), how about the Jeremy Brett version of Sherlock Holmes?

Sounds like my daughter! She loves a gentle murder mystery and declutterring programs! 😆

Maybe not quite what you had in mind. But we love rich kids skint holiday!

AuntieBsBramble · 31/03/2025 12:12

Me and DS often have a series on the go. He quite likes things about families so Young Sheldon/ modern family/ Malcolm in the middle/ everyone hates Chris (he really liked that). The Durrells was a big hit for something a bit more substantial - and one called 'the English Game' about the start of football league.

My DD is a bit 🤏🏼 Oder than the OP’s DC but she’s lived the Rich/Poor programmes for a good while.
