I think that's a good attitude to have, and a good way to shut up the media. They are always desperate to find drama and conflict where there really isn't any- and I think Carlos is concentrating on improving his game and winning matches.

I always remember when Lendl was coaching Murray, and Andy got to number 1, he said that it had actually meant less to him than winning slams. Winning titles was the main goal.

(But Ivan was number 1 for 270 weeks, so maybe he could afford to say that ).

I can’t get used to the automatic line calling on clay. I miss the little ritual of the umpire getting out of their chair to come and scrutinise marks in the dirt.

I bet the umpires are relieved - must have been a right faff all that getting up and down!
