Does anyone else have trouble remembering what happened in previous seasons of series?!

Partly inspired by the reminder thread about the new series of Unforgotten, but also by Netflix prompting me to watch the new seasons of The Night Agent and The Recruit… does anyone else have trouble clicking back in to a series when the last one was a couple of years ago?

I know I watched the previous seasons but when I start to watch the new episodes, I can’t remember characters’ names and relationships to one another, what their motivations are and salient plot points!

Looking online, the last aired episodes were late 2022 or early 2023 which really isn’t that long ago. Why can’t I remember them?!

I don’t think this is perimenopausal fog, maybe a symptom of binge watching and not retaining information because of how much content is constantly released?

Please tell me I’m not alone in this!

@roselilylavender Yes! My 9-year-old retains whole episodes almost verbatim of things that they’re interested in! Maybe age (& inattention whilst mumsnetting!) does have a part to play.

@Porcelainpig I love Den of Geek for this very reason! I haven’t seen Unforgotten yet & also have no memory of an officer in prison 😂so am off to Google before watching it this evening!

That's why we binge watch so we don't have gap in which to forget 😂.My husband can watch a film almost all the way through before realising he's seen it before!

I was just watching Unforgotten and thinking I can't remember the last series at all. I also don't know characters names, in Unforgotten I know the man is Sunny but I don't know what the main woman's name is.

Previous episodes often escape my memory, let alone previous series.

I like Unforgotten because it’s a new case each series, so it doesn’t matter loads if you forget!

10 years ago (how is it 10 years ago?!) I started watching series one of Unforgotten and each week I got more and more confused. At the very same time as it was broadcast another bloody crime drama called River was also on starring......Nicola Walker. I was watching both each week and wondering what the hell was going on 😆 and why all the characters kept changing, who was alive and who was dead.

Yes I definitely do. I sometimes can't retain week to week which is why I have to binge watch.

I think it is age and my job is quite stressful.

Normally if it's a TV show they commence the new series with a recap.

I'm the same with books and films though - I can get half way through something before realising I've read / seen it before.
