I've finished it.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD

Once a certain character 'confessed' it was obvious where it was heading.

I'm not sure what the point was of the asylum seekers storyline. In fact all the side storylines were weak.

What was the deal with Marty and his dad? Did I miss the explanation of this?

Augustus40 · 09/02/2025 17:33

On episode 2. I always love this series. Have watched all previous series many times over on Catch Up.

benfoldsfivefan · 09/02/2025 17:39

Dunno about this so far (three episodes). The story feels a bit boring, but Victoria Hamilton is fabulous as the deceased’s wife and university lecturer.

TidyDancer · 09/02/2025 17:41

I've finished. Family and I agree it was the best once since series 3. Still missing Nicola Walker but I actually thought this one was fairly decent. Pleased to see Ram pop up briefly!

Augustus40 · 09/02/2025 17:45

I agree Victoria Hamilton is,a great actress.

I agree Victoria Hamilton is,a great actress.

I couldn't place her initially. (Never watched the Crown etc.) I recognise her as the photographer love interest from the last series of Mcdonald and Dodds.

DaisyStarburst · 09/02/2025 18:01

I've watched the first three episodes, like everyone else I miss Nicola Walker but I'm enjoying it.

themaskedcat · 09/02/2025 18:11

I think I missed the significance of Marty and/or his father. I thought his father would be revealed as the murder victim but I guess not. Why did his mum tell him not to talk about his father to the police?

CwmYoy · 09/02/2025 18:17

Really enjoyed it. Some excellent acting.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/02/2025 18:19

Marty's mum is Betty from Some Mothers Do Ave Em

Well spotted!

benfoldsfivefan · 09/02/2025 19:43

Jan Francis is in this too. Hard to believe she’s 77!

muzEqy · 09/02/2025 20:04

I binged it all, thought it was great. A few things probably just side plots like usual series but would of been interesting to know more, like what was relevance of younger refugee saving the army guy and translators life's and how did Irish guy end up injured.
I didn't really get the relevance of Leanne telling Sunny about walking out on her daughter. (did his ex wife leave him with two daughters) it just seemed rushed in last episode

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/02/2025 21:18

I've finished now and agree with @muzEqy that there some plotholes here like Marty's mum saying Don't Talk About Daddy and also the outcome of the plot with Asif and the soldier I thought was a bit of a stretch. A good series but not the best one. Feel like I regret binging now. Grin

Finished it. Agreed on those points too. I mean, an extra suspect I guess (Asif) and maybe his friend coming over was to add jeopardy to his storyline every time the police appeared?

I also thought Marty's dad was the victim at first. Not clear what happened to him.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 09/02/2025 23:48

Wow just finished. Really powerful and some excellent writing. V
Clever at seeing both sides of an argument.

What an amazing woman the lecturer is.
