Has anyone read about the plan to scrap the usual mixed doubles competition at the US Open this year? It's now going to be held over 2 days, the week before the main draw I think, and it's going to be focused on singles players teaming up!
Naturally, that's gone down like a lead balloon with doubles players, who I don't think were even consulted
Why don't the powers that be just admit they don't want doubles anymore, given the dumbing down and sidelining of the format over the last few years?

They've changed the scoring aswell......4 game sets, no advantage, whilst trying to dress it up that this will all encourage more people to play tennis and watch doubles.

The doubles thing is annoying kazza - I think they're trying to get higher ranked singles players playing doubles but that's not really feasible given the amount of tennis top players already play

That's ridiculous kazza. I liked it when singles players played doubles back in the day but the tour was different then. Given how exhausted everyone was at the end of last year because they had played so much I don't see them wanting to exhaust themselves or even pick up an injury before a grand slam.
