I know this was probably done when it was oriinally on, but I can't find a thread on it (try searching Boy A!!) and I watched it for the first time last night.

I know its not actually said to be 'based on a true story', but clearly it is.

Apart from the fact that I thought Andrew Garfield (Jack) was an absolutely amazing actor, It made me so, so sad and I am really confused as to my feelings on it in general. I felt extremely sorry for Jack and thought he should be left alone and allowed to rebulid and relive. I thought of his parents and family, and that they would never be able to see him. nor he they, again. I thought how hard it would be to o to jail aged 10, and come out at 24. You would know nothing of the world, his social awkwardness etc, were a terrible shame. A waste of a live.
Then I thought, he killed the girl, if it was my son I would want him dead, or locked up forever.

Anyone see it? What did you think?

I saw it and thought it was brilliant. Nevr knew there was a book, though, may look for that. Does the author talk about their research?

I felt exactly the same. I really loved Jack and then all of a sudden I'd think "This could be based on the James Bulger killers and it brought me up cold. I missed the first half and Sky +d the end, so I need to go and watch the end and see what more about his crime was revealed before I really know how I feel, but the whole idea for the story is very thought provoking.

DirtySexyMummy · 04/05/2008 13:46

Nothing was really revealed, what i though happened was that the other boy was more responsible, and Jack just 'went along with it' but nothing was really shown.

The other boy dragged the girl off, Jack just followed, but he had a knife..

I really loved Jack as well, the portrayal of him was phenomenal, and he was so easy to love. But, if he had killed my son I wouldn't feel like that. But then, what if he was my son? its very, very thought provoking.

I think that's the whole point- i remember how demonised the boys who killed JB were, very few people asking how they'd got to that point and what their future would be. I do remember though that their trial was felt to be quite inhumane by other countries who would have tried them in a children's court.

DirtySexyMummy · 04/05/2008 14:00

I wonder whatever happened to those boys.. I am sure they were about my age, I think.

Terrible crime, obviously, but shoudl they be forgiven as adults?
