Prima Facie - National theatre at Home

I watched Prima Facie last night.

I had no real idea what it was about other then it was Jodie Comer and something to do with a court room drama.

I think it's one of the most thought provoking, change your life type of things I've ever seen. How she (and any other actress in that role) managed to perform it night after night must have been incredibly emotional for her.

A fantastic watch but will be extremely triggering for anyone who has experienced SA.

It’s absolutely amazing -Jodie Cromer is fabulous. I first saw it ‘live’.

Then I took my eldest (then 19) to the cinema performance and, I have to say, it was more moving, intimate, and shocking than the live performance.

lazymum99 · 03/01/2025 09:19

I saw the cinema ‘live’ performance and it was everything @Georgie8 said. When it ended there was just silence and no one got up to leave for a while.

Joystir59 · 03/01/2025 09:20

One of the most moving theatrical performances I've ever seen. Jodie Comer was wonderful.

Supersoakers · 03/01/2025 09:22

Was it on tv or did you go to the cinema?

Derogations · 03/01/2025 23:36

How did you watch it? I’d love to have seen it

Luckypoppy · 03/01/2025 23:41

I watched it at the cinema and I agree that it was an almost life changing performance. She is amazing and I think it should be on every drama a level/degree syllabus. I also think if you can watch it then do as it's a must see. My friend and I couldn't leave the cinema at the end for a good 10 minutes.

Bottomofsmughill · 03/01/2025 23:47

It’s incredible isn’t it? I saw it at cinema and was just in awe at her performance. It must be gruelling.

spiderlight · 03/01/2025 23:50

It's amazing, isn't it? I've never seen anything quite like it.

DowntheDrainpipe · 03/01/2025 23:51

Ah, nice to see more praise for this. Fabulous, wasn’t it? I saw it at the cinema and you could have heard a pin drop. And everyone clapped after.

You can sign up for National Theatre at Home and stream recorded performances.

HPandthelastwish · 06/01/2025 13:45

I have National Theatre at Home £100 for the year and definitely worth it considering the cost for travel and accomodation to watch things in person or even just the event cinema tickets here are £20 each.

I couldn't download it when I had a Now TV box but if you have a Fire stick you can download it.

I think the cinema setting does it the best justice. The camera focuses directly on her face captures every emotion. Stunning performance.

IfUCantDance · 06/01/2025 13:55

I watched this via NT subscription that I got for Christmas. I was totally floored by it. Definitely the best acting performance I’ve ever seen. Gut-wrenching.

TooManyBloodyMarys · 06/01/2025 15:11

I saw this as the cinema. The most jaw dropping performance i have ever seen. Unbelievable talent. And a play everyone should watch.

Maboscelar · 06/01/2025 18:41

I watched it in the cinema and it was incredible. The circumstances were very similar to my rape so I found it very emotional

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/01/2025 19:17

Just phenomenal
Jodie Comer was so deserving of the awards received for this performance.

i have seen it twice now and i was more emotional on second viewing

Kitkat1523 · 06/01/2025 19:25

I saw it live at the Harold Pinter …..wow 😱….it blew me away….no interval just Jodie comer on that stage alone for the duration of the show….everyone walked out in awe

I can’t go to the theatre anymore so it’s been a boost for me.
The first half of the play was amazing - the young, powerful barrister in full force. Then the second half hits you even further.

zigzagzigzagz · 06/01/2025 19:29

Jodie Comer is breathtaking. The screening I went to it was mostly lone women but it’s the kind of thing men need to watch.

BellissimoGecko · 06/01/2025 19:38

I want to see this! How does the theatre at home sub work? We don't have a smart TV.

IKnowAPlace · 06/01/2025 19:39

This was INCREDIBLE

myrtleWilson · 06/01/2025 19:39

I saw it at the cinema when it came out - it was amazing, I was doing those shoulder lifting dry sobs. I may investigate this subscription further - i looked it up during lockdown but then they put some stuff out for free (Streetcar with Gillian Anderson I remember watching) but would consider a subscription..

HPandthelastwish · 06/01/2025 20:05

@BellissimoGecko I don't have a smart TV either, I downloaded the app onto my FireStick and played it through that so any device that can download apps should work although my Now TV box didn't have it. Here's the NTAH info

Is there a way to watch this without paying £100 for NT subscription? I tried to see it at the cinema months ago but then the screening was cancelled. And now I live abroad! Desperate to see it.

A one-month subscription is £9.99.
