How to long to persevere with Better Call Saul?

I loved breaking bad. I want to love Better Call Saul, I know people say it’s amazing. I’m about 4 episodes in and not feeling it at all. Is it a slow start? Does it get more gripping?

I'm jealous it's your first time watching it too.
It gets amazing. Keep watching.

I loved BB but BCS just dodn't connect with me. I thought there were some great episodes and I was interested in a lot of the story lines but I found that for me, it was very ponderous and slow. I haven't watched the final series.

IcedPurple · 31/12/2024 16:12

Another who couldn't get into this despite loving Breaking Bad. I persevered for a while because so many people said it was even better than BB but eventually I gave up and have had no desire to jump back in.

I agree that Kim is a great character. She should have her own show. A spin-off of a spin off!

SerendipityJane · 31/12/2024 17:39

It is slow. However that may be to put of dilettantes 😀

It introduces (for me) one of the best screen villains ever. Worth the entire series for that and I am still amazed we haven't seen more from that actor.

I’ve made it to season 2 and it’s definitely picking up.

I watched three episodes and gave up. I loved BB.

highdaysandholudays · 01/01/2025 22:18

It's so worth sticking with. I absolutely loved it. It's such a complex way of telling the story. No shot is wasted. The detail is incredible and there is genuine heartbreak in it. Kim develops into the most incredible character. Just stick with it. It's brilliant.

stockpilingallthecheese · 01/01/2025 22:58

I wish I could un watch it and watch it again for the first time it was so brilliant 😆 same with Homeland, although I've watched that through twice. Stick at it!

Queenjuliana · 01/01/2025 23:07

It's brilliant! So well acted, funny, sad, the characters are great and the story line just keeps you gguessing. You will be missing out if you don't persevere!

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 01/01/2025 23:09

You do have to persevere. I had to try about 3 times too and once you get past maybe the first 8 episodes it starts getting good. It's a very clever show and better in some ways than BB although if I had to pick one to rewatch it would probably still be BB.

Supermonstermaniac · 01/01/2025 23:12

I preferred it to Breaking Bad. It is really good, plus most of the BB cast end up in it.

roxyro · 01/01/2025 23:13

I’ve tried a few times as loved BB. I gave up after a few episodes but my son tells me it gets much better once into the second series. He said it’s better than Breaking Bad so I’m glad the OP has started this thread as it’s reminded me to have another go.

FranticFrankie · 01/01/2025 23:19

I loved it- even better than Breaking Bad and I loved that.
I enjoy characters back stories/history and how they got there. I think Saul was a very 1-D character in BB but there’s so much more to him and BCS gives you that.
Oh and Mike - love Mike
And Rhea Seehorn is brilliant as Kim- so good

Hmm. I loved it, but can’t say at what point it kicked in! I know I tried the first episode more than once. On balance, I enjoyed it even more than Breaking Bad.

I second this. It's one of my all time favourites. Stick with it!

Disturbia81 · 01/01/2025 23:23

Love BB, tried BTS and couldn't get past first few episodes.. tried it again a few years later and LOVED it 😆 it's really, really good.

TheOracleatDelphi · 01/01/2025 23:38

Keep going!! It builds and builds with some BB characters appearing etc

Agree with this.

Well worth sticking with it. Slow start but it’s the build up. As others have said, it’s worth watching just for Kim.

OriginalUsername2 · 03/01/2025 14:59

I finally managed to get through this series on my 3rd attempt. It’s excellent and I’m so glad I persevered! The character development is brilliant. It’s one of those you think about when you’re not watching it. But you do have to get through the first slow bits.

Due to watch it with DP at some point and there are certain episodes I can’t wait to see again.

Slow start, but wow, what a show. It's amazing. Kim, Mike and Nacho are my all time favourite characters in anything, ever.
Also, they is a poster here called KimWexlersPonytail. Which is a great username.

I was bowled over by Lalo ...

TurtlesDoNotPetsMake · 03/01/2025 15:22

Absolutely! That man has some brass balls. I liked his softer side in Germany too.

littlebilliie · 04/01/2025 09:41

Loved it and his story is interesting

Supermonstermaniac · 04/01/2025 10:45

Also there are some Easter eggs in there that I didn’t realise. My kids said that the guy from GTA 5 is in the episode where Mike first goes to accompany the guy selling the pills.

Also the episode where Saul goes back to his home town and does that watch scam with his friend that theme is from that Paul Newman movie that I can’t bloody think of right now.

Only realised it once I saw the movie.
