Anyone watching? I think previous programmes focused on Thailand. I wasn't aware Sri Lanka was hit so hard too. The stories are heartbreaking.

However, what doesn't sit right with me is the woman providing scientific information. She appears to be positively enjoying the whole thing. It's hard to explain unless you have seen it but its almost like she is describing something wonderful and she kind of smirks her way through the whole thing. It left a really bad taste in mouth

This reminds me very much of a previous C4 documentary on this event also involving much original footage from video cameras etc. Find it quite hard to watch. My only thought re the science woman was that she was possibly too young to remember this happening, which I felt for some reason felt wrong. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

Jeez - I’ve just watched this. It’s heartbreaking. Especially Nim 💔
I do wonder if the science woman is just being factually scientific. Which obviously jars a bit when the programme is so emotional. I also found the same with the ludicrously cheery adverts. Just seemed very inappropriate for such an emotional and devastating programme (the ads)

Glad it's not just me. The cheery ads are definitely off too

I watched the 4 plus seven days the other night so have only seen the one based on Thailand I think. The Chinese lady that lost her son David and the little boy who had lost his dad in the Tsunami. It was really hard to watch the suffering and it was still visible on their faces. I think the tsunami has to be one of the worst disasters in my lifetime. My son went to Thailand last year and this crossed my mind but I know warnings have improved since then.

I haven't seen the programme yet but recently came across the story of British schoolgirl Tilly Smith who recognised the warning signs having learnt about them at school and helped ensure that people on her holiday beach got to safety. I hadn't heard the story before but I understand that now children in the region receive similar lessons.

Agreed. She annoyed me hugely too.
Doubtless too young to remember it and disrespectful of other peoples horrors with her smirky I’m so clever delivery.
Very bad judgement from whoever employed her on this programme.

The book Wave by Sonali Deraniyagala who is a British academic on her experiences in Sri Lanka is one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching things I have ever read. She lost everyone in the tsunami and she writes with such passion and love.

I said this to my husband when we were watching it last night! She's got almost a weird smugness about her. Not sure I agree with it being age related as I'm 31 (she's similar...perhaps a bit older) and I remember it well it's always stayed in my memory quite vividly! I feel it's more like a 'look at me and all my amazing scientific knowledge...here I am making my debut on national TV' who knows but it's definitely odd!

Yes,I found the same. Almost excitingly explaining how the earth caused the waves whilst showing the video.
I found the stories really upsetting and my heart went out to he lady who lost her three children and husband and all the other survivors. Also the devastation it caused for all the locals who suffered lost and their homes .
