In search of a period drama

Currently watching Victoria on Netflix and I am obsessed. I love everything about it, learning about the history, the era, the fashion, the customs etc.

Does anyone have similar recommendations for something to watch on Netflix or Prime? I don't mind which period it's based on, I just love a good period drama for pure escapism!

The Tudors! - Enjoy !

Penny Dreadful
The Tudors
The Hardacres

Dickensian was absolutely brilliant. So well acted and engaging. I’ll definitely be watching that again in the run up to Christmas. It’s a reimagined drama bringing a lot of Dicken’s most well known characters together.

Not sure which of these is Netflix, The Tudors is C4 (I’m watching now!) and Dickensian was BBC.

Wolf Hall is currently on iPlayer - it's brilliant

Brigerton - not accurate to true life at all, but an enjoyable ‘period’ drama.

Littleguggi · 08/11/2024 21:37

Thanks all. I wasn't keen on Bridgerton but maybe I need to give it another go.

My favourite so far have been Poldark and Downton, I am quite new to period dramas as you can probably tell!

Oh and The Crown of course but I'm not sure what genre that comes under!

Another vote for Wolf Hall, it's superb. Second series starts on Sunday.

North and South (2004) is wonderful. Plus Richard Armitage as Mr Thornton is gorgeous.

Wolf Hall
Gentleman Jack

hideawayforever · 08/11/2024 22:10

Dickensian was really good.

MrJeremyFisher · 08/11/2024 22:10

I recently watched Bleak House on iPlayer, highly recommend that. Fantastic characters and great performances. Especially Phil Davis. Shake me up Judy!

UnicornUnicornGolf · 08/11/2024 22:14

Downton!

inneedofchocolate · 08/11/2024 22:15

I highly recommend Outlander. There are quite a few series to get your teeth into and lots of different time periods. Please be warned that there are quite a few "saucy" scenes throughout!
