Well done Daniil -makes no difference, but you get some pride back.

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2024 20:51

It's ok Jannik you already won Grin

Raahh · 14/11/2024 20:55

At least Daniil hasn't given up on this, which is good. He's still being competitive, and could easily have given up.
I think he has too much respect for Jannik.

Raahh · 14/11/2024 20:56

It may be a year without a title, Daniil still ended it in the top 5. So he can't have been totally rubbish.

Raahh · 14/11/2024 20:56

Well done Jannik.

JaneJeffer · 14/11/2024 20:57

Well done Jannik

Off to BB now

Yes, Jannik makes it very clear when he's had enough questions Grin

IceandIndigo · 14/11/2024 21:09

Well done Jannik. I find his response to annoying interview questions very relatable.

kazzaD66 · 15/11/2024 12:23

I don't know if any of you have read the interview with BJK but I don't agree with some of her comments........names and numbers on the back of shirts?? Why? - In case you forget who you're watching (and what will the number mean??) Confused
Replace the scoring system with 1, 2, 3, 4 instead of 15-0 etc. Hmm to make it easier for children to understand, because that's who tennis should be targeted at, not 60 year olds Hmm Really? Maybe I'll just shuffle off this mortal coil now, seeing as I won't count for much sooner rather than later!! What is all this dumbing down bollocks Angry I learnt to play and watched tennis as a child and I managed just fine!!!
Rant over Grin

JaneJeffer · 15/11/2024 12:26

Oh for fuck sake. I know I was complaining about maths but that is just ridiculous BJK! I had no problem understanding tennis when I was a child. Leave tennis alone!

Raahh · 15/11/2024 12:35

Oh, well that has pissed me off.

(as if I wasn't annoyed enough after the last ever episode of DoctorsGrin).
All sports have their own scoring systems. Tennis is no different, and not that hard to grasp.

I hate to say it, but it's not surprising that it's probably an American who thought up the idea (like Taylor's girl friend and her 'making tennis fun' influencing).
Why not scrap the actual tennis altogether- that's too dull, and just have bunch of cheerleaders and a light show??Angry.

I find it hard enough to keep up with the tie break rules and no ad doubles!

kazzaD66 · 15/11/2024 12:37

And whilst we're ranting....Kyrgios has announced he's coming back to play Brisbane!

Raahh · 15/11/2024 12:39

Laura's hair is like an advert. It's lovely and shiny. I am very jealous. Grin

Raahh · 15/11/2024 12:40

kazzaD66 · 15/11/2024 12:37

And whilst we're ranting....Kyrgios has announced he's coming back to play Brisbane!

Well bugger bollocks damn

kazzaD66 · 15/11/2024 12:42

In a nutshell Raahh
Although* *I might have added a few other words aswell Grin

Raahh · 15/11/2024 12:45

kazza i thought about it. I thought that would do for nowGrin.

He will hopefully lose in the first round, make some spurious excuses about injuries and disappear again.

After he's made some digs at other players, and lost all his winnings in fines.

Raahh · 15/11/2024 13:03

This ball bouncing is really annoying.

Fizzywinegum · 15/11/2024 13:47

Apparently Kyrgios thinks he can still win something big - deluded idiot!

Come on Carlos - I've got no idea what the various permutations are but hope he can go through

I don't agree with BJK at all - I understand the need to appeal to a younger audience but that shouldn't mean dumbing everything down - I like the scoring system and surely it's not that hard to follow (apart from the different tiebreak rules that even the players don't understand!)

I know I'm an old fogey but I like Wimbledon because it doesn't have a DJ playing music, everyone is quiet and the crowd isn't allowed to come and go as they please - rant over!

Raahh · 15/11/2024 13:59

Fizzy I agree about Wimbledon, and I also hope they don't start messing with the 5 set format. It's what sets the slams apart. I miss 5 set doubles epics at the slams.

Kyrios is indeed deluded, but he would agree with BJK, and if it was up to him, a match would be an hour long, in 15 minute segments and not involve any real effort. Spot the people who have no attention span. Hmm.

I enjoyed the DJ and spectator participation at the Olympics- but it was a different event.

I don't want pre or post event singers and dancers, no national anthems, djs and flashing lights at Wimbledon. Definitely no wandering about. The umpire is there to manage the players, not crowd control- constantly having to hold up play to tell people to find seats, whilst also enforcing a shot clock rule just smacks of hypocrisy.

Raahh · 15/11/2024 14:11

Tie break- this is a tight set.

Raahh · 15/11/2024 14:21

Wow, the shots at the end.

Carlos in shock.

So, Sascha wins a set- I think that means something for Rublev (he's probably out) but I can't work it out Grin

Raahh · 15/11/2024 14:32

Sascha is playing well, but I don't think Carlos is 100% at all. His level has dropped this set.

Fizzywinegum · 15/11/2024 14:41

Yes I think that means that Rublev is out but still not sure what it means for Carlos!

I also enjoyed the atmosphere at the Olympics Raahh and don't mind some music and lights at some of the tournaments.

At the Davis Cup in Manchester there was a DJ and lights but the umpire still made everyone be quiet before a point was played and the crowd wasn't allowed in the arena until change of ends so I think the modern and traditional can mix

I keep wondering if Laura has had some work done - her face doesn't seem to be moving much - I really hope not as she can't be much older than 30 if that!

Raahh · 15/11/2024 14:50

I agree there is room for a mix- but the US tournaments often get things wrong, because they tend to prioritise the spectators over the players. The wandering, the constant eating, the noise. The Aussie Open isn't much better. By the late night matches, the drunk spectators are a big issue.

Common sense should tell you that there are some sports where noise doesn't matter- football, rugby etc- but tennis isn't one of them, and it's not the players being precious to want quiet at crucial moments.

The players who claim not to be bothered by it, aren't helping (and I suspect secretly they are affected, but are towing the party line).

Raahh · 15/11/2024 14:51

Carlos is trying to pull this back. He really does look full of a cold though. You can see it in his eyes.
