I was quite shocked at a certain scene in ep5, I think they should have put a trigger warning

Yes, I know what you mean - I reacted like that too. It goes way beyond what’s in the book. I mean, it helps move the plot along slightly differently from the book and I think it works well, but I also think I was more shocked because knowing that scene in the book I wasn’t expecting it.

Danny Dyer IS Freddie Jones - he's bloody brilliant!

Dame Jilly cameo in episode 5!

I literally cheered when I saw her! I've been waiting for her to pop up somewhere, I knew she would...

Sallyingon · 19/10/2024 16:18

I'm 4 episodes in..I can't remember anything from the book but I am LOVING it ALL!!! Especially Lizzie and Freddie!! He's gorgeous. They must have had such a great time. It is great fun. Love the music and yeah all the women are tremendous!!

Gatekeeper · 19/10/2024 16:28

Oh hell...this is my fav Jilly Cooper book and have read it dozens of times since it first came out. Is it worth me buying a month's subscription to Disney+ of am I doomed to be shouting at the telly "she/he didnt look like that/do that/say that etc etc

The Jilly cameo in ep 5 was brilliant - that episode is fab. I'm onto ep 7 (no chores done today, kids ignored) and don't want to finish it!

TossedSaladandSE · 19/10/2024 16:30

I just spotted Jilly Cooper in episode 5 about 38 mins in

Fabulous

virgocatlover · 19/10/2024 16:30

I've finished it. Those who have read the books - is he or isn't he?

52crumblesofautumn · 19/10/2024 16:31

I agree @BestIsWest I always thought it was clear RCB was a bit of a shit, always wanting the applause and ruthless - hassell is doing a great job of acting the part as far as I can see.

TossedSaladandSE · 19/10/2024 16:33

Danny Dyer has always been a brilliant actor especially since Human Traffic

Definitely worth it!! I've seen all eight episodes!! It's fantastic 👏

Oh Daysee

Just on episode 3. The New Year's Eve party is exactly how I imagined it! Cameron's dress is absolutely stunning.

Yes just seen the New Year's Eve party.

I like Charles expanded role.

And there was someone maud introduced to Tony -the film guy from London? That seems to be a new character as I could not recall the name.

bookworm14 · 19/10/2024 17:05

Yes I like that they've made Charles more of a rounded character. I don't remember the Indian film producer from the book either.

DanielaDressen · 19/10/2024 17:06

I need to read it again.

8misskitty8 · 19/10/2024 17:10

Loved the series. Not read the book but is that how the book ends ?

BalloonSlayer · 19/10/2024 17:22

burnoutbabe · 19/10/2024 10:16

I never really picture anyone when reading UNLESS I have also seen a tv or film of it and then that person is the character in my mind.

So hermoinie is Emma Watson in my mind. Even though I read the books first. They had no physical form when I read the books. I just don't visualise them.

I read your post several times @burnoutbabe and kept thinking "but Emma Watson's nothing like Hermione!" and finally realised I was thinking of Jilly's Hermione: the ghastly opera singer from The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous. I forgot about the Harry Potter Hermione, I was completely in Jilly Mode! Grin

burnoutbabe · 19/10/2024 17:32

Hsha!

Now who would play her in an adaptation?

All I can think is huge boobs? Maybe Pam ferris? But she is too old now so no idea!

Ranaldini needs to be sexy but also a bit odd. A more attractive Andrew Lloyd Webber?

Singleandproud · 19/10/2024 17:42

The scene in episode 5 was awful, but well done and particularly topical ATM could have done with a TW before hand though. I have never read. a Jilly Cooper book so no idea what to expect, but I think it is probably quite accurately portraying women's experience in 80s TV land.

Danny Dyer is fabulous but apart from DT I'm not sure I recognize any of the male actors, the women are fantastic though.

I quite like Bryony Hannah / Deirdre call X a slag, Nurse Cynthia would never say that in CTM.

The 'is he or isn't he' bit you're talking about isn't in the book!

Joanna Scanlan?

As this is a spoilers thread - are we allowed to talk about the end yet?!

This is only supposed to be about episode 1. But seems to have expanded. I expect book spoilers here but that was it.

Best to start a new thread for "seen it all -post spoilers"

A bit like Hitchcock used to in his films, albeit Jolly is more glamorous😀
