I wouldn’t describe her as posh! Well-spoken yes but posh is how the ‘made in Chelsea’ lot speak.

MikeRafone · 24/08/2024 17:13

Made in Chelsea are middle class, Molly is surely working class

posh is someone trying to be more than they are, and can happen in any class

Mumsnet loves a good class debate! ^

in the context of Molly and Tommy’s relationship, she is posh. He comes from a completely different background to him, even though his family might have similar amounts of money due to fame. That was likely a factor that attracted him to her.

Emmanuelll · 24/08/2024 18:26

Molly's parents were both police officers so not working class.

brinker · 24/08/2024 18:38

Haha I guess it’s subjective! I always see the MIC lot as the epitome of posh. And they all have very very posh accents.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion, they’re not upper class or middle class as police constables

MikeRafone · 25/08/2024 20:25

I will have to succumb to being incredibly bad at registering which class is which - although I would find it hard to clump a police constable and all the ranks through to chief of police all in the same class at middle class. Whilst I understand its not the same as the army with the. squaddies at the lower ranks coming from the working class and the officers coming in through upper class - it seems strange to lump all police in one band

Emmanuelll · 25/08/2024 20:39

Well, a police officer is considered to be a professional job, like a teacher also is. Teachers also have an entry level and can move upwards to become head teachers or even educational psychologists.

The class definitions have changed a little bit though. The one I referred to is the old fashioned one tbh.

i think the Army is different than anything else though.

My husband is a colour sergeant in the marines. He's as rough talking as you can get. Grew up on a council estate.
