Has anyone seen this? I'm currently eating the Family Without Rules episode. They seem incredibly arrogant.

Yeah, something like "we aren't on the same page, or in the same boom or even the same library...".
The kid were always around but not really being interacted with. But that might have been the TV thing.
The unschooling was bizarre. When the son was playing in a tree, and the mum was asked "what is he learning now?" Her reaction was very deer in the headlights!

Not seen that one yet. Just on to the MMA kid one. Weirdly, seems less controversial!

I take it back.
More homeschooling.
🤦🏻‍♀️

After her visit ,at least the boy was incentivised to start teaching himself to read online! Both children appear to be bright and it’s frustrating to see them being held back regarding a formal education. I fear for their future, unless the parents change their views.
It was both fascinating and horrible to see how the family lived, and I was angry to see how the entitled father justified why he was on benefits. It was sad to see the children with no boundaries or structure to their lives, eating on their own, tearing at their food, and the mother leaving them to their own devices. It would be interesting to see a follow up programme.

I think a follow up program would be very interesting too. Not sure if I can see the family agreeing to it or Stacey for that matter?

The way the children ate made me sad - no family mealtimes &!random combos (broccoli and monster munch?!). And the son at 8 couldn’t read or write. I looked on their insta and he’s apparently autistic, so they must’ve gone down the nhs route for diagnosis (hence at taxpayer’s expense).

They were lazy parents rather than unconventional ones. If they weren't middle class their children would be seen as neglected.

MinnieDog · 13/08/2024 21:32

I wouldn't call them middle class, at all

This inspired me to watch the series!

I have only had time to watch one so far. Landed gentry. And it did make me laugh 🤣

She makes it out like they are super privileged; and they are! yet she’s wearing £200 Portrait of a Lady perfume so she’s quite privileged too.

I haven't seen that one yet. The clip from it drives me mad. It's the bit where she said her DH has worked incredibly hard, as though poor people are lazy and nobody is working 2 or 3 jobs just to try and pay the rent.

I finished the Mormon one yesterday. I felt incredibly sorry for the boy going to be a Missionary. Not letting them have contact with home seems a bit extreme, some might say even cultish?

He didn't seem entirely happy with the restrictions of the Church.

I would like to know what the no rules family are up to now, especially as the UC rules will mean they need to change their attitude to work... Felt very sorry for the boy called Ulysses, what a horrendous name!

elliejjtiny · 09/12/2024 16:17

I watched the no rules family, didn't realise they had a Facebook and Instagram page, does anyone have a link.

I think my favourite was the gentry one where the lady was saying that she was sure Stacey would think they were really normal but Stacey shocked her by saying she had never met anyone as posh as them.

I thought the episodes with the Mormon and Jewish families were really interesting and there were so much I didn't know.

I have to admit I love this kind of programme.
