I don't know if anyone has mentioned it already, but there's a programme about Amy on BBC One on Monday evening - 'Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me'.

That programme will be very good, I expect. I think that Dianne is on it (someone said she was Amy’s bridesmaid).

Strictly is a tainted now following recent revelations but Amy’s presence in 2024 is a real upside. As is the news of the sign language.

Re. old Blue Peter presenters. I always liked Mark Curry. He was quite accident-prone but very genial and witty. He would be good value. I think he might've done a special a while ago.

Mark Curry did a Strictly Children In Need Blue Peter Special and was, perhaps surprisingly, the best dancer.

Praying two of the guys have injuries so they can't compete. I heard Pete has broken ribs.

I’d love Peter Duncan from Blue Peter. He was easily the best presenter for me, plus he then did some really interesting travel programmes with his children that were perfectly timed for my own kids. I’ve no idea how old he is though, or his health.

Peter Duncan ran the London marathon iirc. I haven’t heard anything about him in ages. I liked Simon Groom too.

Do you remember Peter Duncan in the green checked suit that a viewer designed for him? I think it was quite early in his Blue Peter stint, they had the fabric printed specially!

Ha I only meant minor injury. I'm just annoyed the females are outnumbered.

A year is quite a long time to wait for 8 women 7 men. Then to only get 6 is a kick in the teeth. The excuses don't cut it.
And 9 men is a joke this year of all years.

It's not the men's fault. Let's hope they don't injur themselves, it will balance out after a few weeks anyway.

It seems quite likely that one of the women celebs dropped out at the last moment (the rumour is that it was GK Barry (TikTok and podcasts) and the female backup also bailed.

I do have sympathy with the "just how hard can it be to find a spare Sugababe at short notice?" POV though.

Yep how hard can it be to find two bbc female presenters/ reporter/ radio of the D list kind. Just as long as they are female and paid by the bbc to make things easier.

I broke five ribs when I was a young woman, and I could barely walk, breathe or turn over in bed. It was agony, for weeks.

If that's genuinely why there's an imbalance, why can't they have 3 or 4 backups ready to go? Seems mad if they only have 1 male and 1 female.
They could book them on a contract which means they're a reserve this year and if they're not used they're guaranteed a slot next year.

I remember the green and white suit - that was a good look for him. I think he also had guardianship of a guide dog called Prince for a while (one of Goldie's puppies?) - they were a winning pair.

Back to SCD - I have found it a bit odd with the little SCD teaser-trails of the Vengabus, when coming at the same time as further (non BBC) news updates of the Giovanni investigation. Conjures up an image of a sequin-covered car-crash. Or maybe that's just me.
