I hope that women on top of the glass house had some thermals on. Looked bracing up there.

I thought they were going to have to abandon rock but got the fire under control in time.

I turned the ceremony on at about 2045 and immediately said “I need to see what Mumsnet makes of this”.

Needless to say, I am not disappointed.

I've just spoken to my French friend and she's explained that lots of things we're seeing are are political and sticking two fingers at Marine le Pen and the Front National: things like the black singer early on singing and dancing with the soldiers and a lot of other more subtle stuff that you probably have to be French to understand.

We both wonder what JP Sartre would say. We agreed that Voltaire would think it was the best possible of all worlds...

My friend said not to tell anyone, but the French really envy the way the Brits do ceremonial things.
