The other thread was getting too slow (and we were running out of space faster than the thread on a bobbin)

Glad i was wrong. Suzy was nice enough amd had ideas, but over all the rounds I can't remember any made to measure actually fitting the model bar the sportswear.

Spareincoming · 17/07/2024 22:01

@Binglebong ah no, didn’t spoil it!

Binglebong · 17/07/2024 22:02

Phew!

Binglebong · 17/07/2024 22:03

Wasn't her sportsware the crop top trying to cut someone's head off?

BiscuityBoyle · 17/07/2024 22:03

As an aside, am I right in recalling that back in the past someone won GOTW but also went home?

Netaporter · 17/07/2024 22:03

Binglebong · 17/07/2024 22:00

Nah, the spoiler last week made it look like Luke was going this.

🤞🏻

Violetparis · 17/07/2024 22:03

Pascha has been consistently good, I hope she wins. I think Patrick and Esme don't give her enough praise.

Haha yes i think so, but at least it touched the model, even if in a murderous way.

Thick of it on bbc2. 🙌🏽🙌🏽

I wonder how much sewing experience Suzy has. If I understood it, her dress was too big at the hips, and she didn’t know how to make it smaller without unpicking the seams - which would take too long as she’d top stitched them.

Couldn’t she just have made darts which looked like extra seams, wider on the hips and tapering to nothing at the waist and hem?

When I was taught to sew (and this was all fields…) we always had to put a hook and eye at the top of a zip. I don’t think that happens much now, so it’s reasonable that she’s never sewn a hook and eye before. Except, didn’t she say she’d sewn her MYM dress twice before?

Someone competently doing a good job isn't want the producers think viewers want to see. Which is how you get such disparately skilled contestants in the first place.

Ailsa’s outfit looked more Chanel to me when we saw everything together rather than the separate pieces.

This was a much better week generally, in my opinion.

Labour’s back in govt…and the BBC decide to rerun The Thick of it 😂

AnnaMagnani · 17/07/2024 22:14

Even if you haven't sewn on a hook and eye, surely you know what they are supposed to look like?

I thought Suzy was doomed when Esme criticised her garment for not being flattering and then the camera panned round to her wearing her big red clown outfit. Esme likes drama but clearly has a limit.

Exactly 🤣🤣🤣

I try not to watch the "Next Week" clips if I can avoid them. I don't think they usually give anything much away about how people have done over all though. I'm sure I've seen it before when the clips imply something that doesn't happen.

Also, I think that the transformation challenge needs a complete rethink.

Here here! Remember when they took a plain white tee shirt and altered it to make it more interesting? Or took a denim skirt? Those transformations were really cool to me, much more so than the current rubbish.

Asmaa quietly got on with being a competent sewer.

I do agree they put a mix of people in to make good TV (in their eyes!) though. I suppose it give the show a broader appeal rather than just appealing to avid sewers who want to see a roomful of quietly competent people.

By having a murdered Sesame Street character as a coat apparently.

That's the most likely explanation I'm sure.

I wish we had a better view of it, though, beyond the top few inches. Perhaps it was a short cape = no fitting required.

Floralnomad · 18/07/2024 01:24

Luke has really improved in the last few weeks and my opinion has really changed . I’m glad Suzy went , I think she should have gone weeks ago .

FriendsDrinkBook · 18/07/2024 06:30

Suzy was certainly out of her depth this week , but she's done very well to to get so far. If her instagram account is anything to go by she's really filled in the gaps in her knowledge since the show which is fantastic to see. Matthew did the same last year and took a course or two after the show.

The gotw was so beautiful , I'd wear it in a heartbeat. A classic bias cut gown will always be a winner.

I'm looking forward to the final. I had a feeling that we would have a male winner this year and certainly has the skill to pull it out of the bag on the day. Either of them would be deserving though.

EvilRingahBitch · 18/07/2024 07:20

Pascha's GOTW was great - a textbook example of how to ace the made to measure. On top of her excellent pattern challenge it's hard to see past her for the win.
But Luke's transformation was brilliant I thought, I'd be happy for either of them to win.
Ailsa is lovely but she's very lucky to have made the final at all.

LIZS · 18/07/2024 07:26

I thought Luke really nailed the transformation. If his collar had been straight he might have pipped Pascha in the mtm as his concept was more creative but hers really captured the understatement of a Chanel lbd.

Where where!

I agree it's just stupid now. It is rubbish and a complete mess. This isn't up cycling at all

deeahgwitch · 18/07/2024 08:32

Pascha is consistently good.
Last night her GOTW was beautiful.
Patrick often comments on her beautiful sewing.

Esme looked shocked that Ailsa ( or was it Suzy ) hadn't practiced for the GOT.

I think the standard of the sewers on TGBSB has dropped.
