They'd yet again f's up my Coronation Street, yet again!!!

We were short-changed last week as well.

IMO, ITV wants to bite of the hand that feeds it

Disgusting scheduling!!

Calm down, major tournaments are only every other year. Why are your precious soaps more important than sport?

GreenWheat · 14/06/2024 13:02

Oh give over. A soap opera can't expect to hog the same slot multiple times a week for years on end without the occasional disruption for more popular one-time events.

SocksAndTheCity · 14/06/2024 13:15

NoDishyRishi · 13/06/2024 20:21

Forgot to add when I was growing up ITV was deemed common unless it was live sport...

Ha - my nana also disapproved of ITV. She thought it 'uncouth' 😁

Surely any prerecorded programme can be watched any time on ITVX, iPlayer and so on? I know when the dirge that is Wimbledon takes over the BBC I'll be making good use of the streamers.

Aphrodite89 · 14/06/2024 12:43

Just people who watched live in both cases.

thank you - therefore there may be at least another couple of millions as many do record in order not to watch the adverts

Why should we always have to pay extra to watch what we enjoy though? I pay my TV license as much as you do, so why shouldn't I be allowed to watch football for no additional charge? Would you be happy if all the soaps were only available on Sky so you had to pay extra?

ITV is nothing to do with the TV licence. Obviously more people prefer to watch the football than Corrie, they get more money from the adverts and so they made a financial decision.
Isn't Corrie on something annoying like 3 times a week!?

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 14/06/2024 13:21

Samcro · 14/06/2024 10:43

why not say fucking football op?
I wish the people who schedule all this sport would realise that not everyone likes football.

I would prefer the money spent on soaps to go on quality drama but we can't win them all.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 14/06/2024 13:38

You could watch the repeats and it would be no different. Last time I watched soaps they were just rehashing story lines done before (misses point entirely)

kitsuneghost · 14/06/2024 13:42

You can watch corrie on catch up
you really can't do the same with such a big football tournament.

BFG2023 · 14/06/2024 13:54

"we always record to skip the crap adverts!!"

Riiight. So you admit you recorded it anyway and don't watch it live, but are still outraged and disgusted they've altered the schedule...?🙄

i don't watch soaps. but don't get why football is deemed so important.
everything is moved for it.
not everyone wants to watch it.

Because it's really fun! I love sport though. It's not exactly difficult to watch things on catch up or the iPlayer or Netflix or disney+ or the other thousands of ways we can now watch events. Whereas football and other sport is live and cannot be washed different point because it will have inevitably by some dickhead letting you know the score however hard you try to avoid it

The football can go on another channel!

MartyFunkhouser · 14/06/2024 17:16

Just say ‘fucking’. There’s no need to be twee.

It’s the euros! Surely that’s infinitely more important than a soap which can be watched on catch up. you can’t say the same for big football events.

I’m amazed things like coronation st are still going or watched, tbh. But that’s a whole other thread.

GuinnessBird · 14/06/2024 17:20

It's a once every four years tournament, Coronation Street fans will survive a few weeks of disruption I suspect after the group games that Coronation Streeet will be back on.

They do. They also know that not everyone likes soaps. In fact, a far higher number don't like soaps enough to actually watch them, than don't like football enough not to watch it.

You don't understand why live sport needs to be shown live?

GreenWheat · 14/06/2024 18:06

Bignanna · 14/06/2024 17:11

Nope. The most popular programme goes on the highest profile channel. That's how broadcasters can charge more for advertising slots. And live Euros gets way more viewers than yet another installment of some dreary soap about the mundane lives of people who don't actually exist.

Hi
True and even my family and I watched the last 25 mis of football, it was ok!!

However, the itv clowns have really f'd my CS this week as well as Emmerdale!!

OP posts:
Cattery · 17/06/2024 13:08

You do know it’s not compulsory to watch the football don’t you? You won’t get into trouble for not watching it. There are hundreds of other channels to choose from

Frustrated76 · 06/07/2024 08:25

Same last night on the day of the election and a historic result. Tuned in for the BBC1 10 o'clock news to see the new PM and... France vs Portugal?!?

Not even the national team!

Emily1583 · 06/07/2024 08:40

Are you living under a rock? The election news was on all day yesterday. By evening time all they would be doing is repeating the same results analysis, interviews, etc from the day over and over. You have the news channels where they are still talking about the election too.
