Well we all know she’s not 100% normal don’t we.
would love to see how she justifies the figure tho.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/06/2024 07:58

Ah £170m

I was thinking it was a bit odd. Like the fact she only got paid something like £250 to be on the PM show

MrsDTucker · 07/06/2024 07:58

Is Richard Gadd not liable then?

I suppose ultimately the buck lands with them. Or at least that's what she's probably advised herself.

MrsDTucker · 07/06/2024 08:01

It must be horrendous for her. Clearly she isn't well. She would have been better to deny all for her sanity but then again why should she.

I hated that Richard straight away (I'd not heard of him before). I think he is responsible.

The lawsuit seeks actual damages and compensatory damages at 50 million dollars (£39 million) each; punitive damages at 20 million dollars (£16 million); as well as “all profits” from Baby Reindeer at 50 million dollars (£39 million).

I doubt she'll get more then a fraction of that but on the face of it winning is a real possibility. The drama is sold as a true story (whatever has been said elsewhere) and they used real messages that are publicly available so finding the real woman was fairly trivial. She's had personal consequences off the back of lying about her.

I doubt gadd has that much cash to sue for hence netflix. Whether netflix needed to do due diligence to ensure individuals are protected or they can turn that back on gadd will depend on their contract, the law etc.

Amsx · 07/06/2024 08:39

The whole thing is fucked up.

lljkk · 07/06/2024 08:43

It's interesting which parts of the broadcast drama that she doesn't deny.

EatMoreFibre · 07/06/2024 11:28

I read elsewhere that this is the way things are done in America- sue for an enormous amount and eventually there might be a settlement for 5% or 10% of that. With or without any admission of guilt.

FWIW it seems obvious that neither Gadd nor Netflix did enough to conceal her identity; they also actively mislead viewers with the "this a true story". There was no need to open the series with that, they could have said "based on true facts".
