Am I being oversensitive or does anyone else think that it's slightly suspicious that the two black women were voted into the sing-off by the Great British Public?

I don't think that they deserved to be there on their performances - especially Cleo, who was brilliant last night - even if she wasn't tonight.

Thought Keisha deservd to be there

Shame about Cleo

Race as a factor? Don't know. Hope not

I just posted this on the other thread Seeker. Def didn't think Cleo deserved to go out (and don't think ALW did either). Tara was worst imo. Sadly I think race might be a factor.

moodymammy · 06/04/2008 23:27

No! Last week it was a red head and a blonde, does that mean the public only like brunettes? I think the really young one should go out next week, the blonde one sorry can't remember her name.

MummyPenguin · 07/04/2008 13:03

If ALW thought that Cleo shouldn't have gone out then he would have saved her, not Keisha.

As for the black thing, and knowing what MN can be like, I'm going to clearly state that I am not racist by any means, I have black people in my family. The show has got into the second week now, and the public are starting to really think about who they would like as Nancy, and particularly those that will be paying to go and see the West End production. Reality is that Nancy wasn't black, in the original story. And that's it, if people are going to pay West End money, they want the story and characters to be as close to the original as possible. It's the same for the Olivers. It's just not believable. I think when they run these auditions, the people in charge feel that they have to put some of the black contestants through, so that they can't be slated for being racist, and they put them through knowing that when it's a public vote there's a very strong possibility that the public will vote out the black contestants.

I recently went to see Grease in the West End, and I don't know if anyone remembers the TV show 'Grease Is The Word' which was an auditions show for the roles of Danny and Sandy, but Susan McFadden and Danny Byrne are very believable as the original Danny and Sandy. It works, and that's it.

A black lady played Nancy on stage in the West End though and did it very well. Doesn't matter about ethnic origin as long as you can sing and act well.

MummyPenguin · 07/04/2008 15:46

True, but she probably didn't get the role via one of these tv audition shows though. Where there's a public vote, I can't see it happening.

moodymammy · 07/04/2008 15:49

Yeah, you're probably right. Anyway, I personally think there are better singers than Keisha and Cleo. The one with the dark hair and heavy fringe (sorry I am so crap with names) and Jodie.

MummyPenguin · 07/04/2008 22:11

Niamh you mean, yeah she's quite good. My faves are Jodie and Ashley.

frankiesbestfriend · 07/04/2008 22:30

Nancy wouldnt have been black in the original story, but then people dont burst into song and dance routines in the street in the Dickens version either.
Musicals dont have to be realistic or historically correct!

My favourites are Jody and Francesca,Niamh is amazing but cant see her as Nancy.
Jody and Francesca have that rough diamond quality Nancy needs(imho)
