Is Cocomelon harmless fun or over stimulating nightmare?

My kid is a huge fan, but some parents are switching off their children’s devices and claiming the bright colours, earworm songs and quick-changing scenes are overstimulating - as a mother I don't know what to think

I’m going to keep the channel firmly on CBeebies.

Is Cocomelon harmless fun or over stimulating nightmare? Two mums debate

While some parents have banned their children from watching it, others are sick of how guilty they’re made to feel for allowing them the screen time.

I don’t like Cocomelon and don’t put it on but I have also banned Bing and I remember the Teletubbies coming under fire, both of which are on CBeebies.

Toddlers don't need TV.

I don’t let my children watch it. There are much slower paced , gentler programmes that don’t cause them to go into a trance as some say!

I think "harmless fun" and "overstimulating nightmare" are both inappropriate for Cocomelon. I'd like to see some evidence for "overstimulation" coming from somewhere other than www.raisewildflowers.com. That website is run by Jessica Sannes, an American mother who displays remarkable levels of paranoia about baby/toddler TV shows, but her only actual evidence is from her own son being stroppy and difficult, which I would be if she was my mum. She thinks it's very sinister that Cocomelon is “carefully designed to hold a young child’s attention” as though the makers of almost any story, toy or song for children wouldn't do exactly the same. My objection to Cocomelon is that it's all the same style, with those enormous eyes and huge heads, and the "always be nice" emotional level is always OTT.

It’s an overstimulating nightmare for the parents. I’m sure the kids will be fine though
