Giovanni Pernice 'QUITS' Strictly: Under-fire pro 'ends his eight year stint' after 'torrid' five months saw three of ex dance partners meet to discuss their 'difficult' experiences with him | Daily Mail Online

I don't know if I am surprised or not, given the allegations against him. But - BBC are backing him and nothing was even investigated I don't think?

Strictly's Giovanni Pernice 'QUITS' Strictly Come Dancing

The professional dancer, 33, is said to have called time on his eight-year stint on the show - despite the BBC 'backing him all the way' after reports emerged of clashes with his past female contestants.

I agree with that in principle HelenaWaiting but can we trust the BBC with this given they've been so dismissive up until this point? It sounds as if Amanda was in constant dialogue with producers about G's behaviour and yet it didn't improve things to the point she's now claiming PTSD. If Ranvir made a formal complaint at the time but nothing came of it, it would seem the BBC are now on the back foot and may have a vested interest in finding in G's favour. Although maybe they've got external investigators in. I don't know how it works.

Gio is amazing - really hope he doesn't quit!

Even if its true he's been a piece of shit?
3 women have spoken out, do we really think they're all lying?

Giovanni fans (not meaning here) seem to have decided he must be above suspicion of anything because they enjoy drooling over him and the nastiness directed to Amanda Abbington in particular has been awful.
Given three women have spoken about similar behaviour from him I would have hoped there would be understanding that it warrants proper investigation. It’s sad that even women don’t believe other women.

This. People falling all over themselves to make excuses for him and call everyone else lazy/precious/liars.

Bumblebeeinatree · 21/05/2024 20:30

Surely they don't need to comply if they think he works them too hard? He's there to try and win the contest and to get his partners to become as good as they can. It doesn't seem to be any sort of sexual abuse. Just leave if you don't like the training.

Arconialiving · 21/05/2024 20:57

I don't know what they've accused him of @Mookie81 to believe or disbelieve them?!

From what I've heard, they don't like his training methods, which make him sound like a hard taskmaster but I've not heard anything about him being abusive hence not believing or disbelieving, I just know he's a phenomenal dancer & I love watching him on Strictly.

All the celebs have likely turned down other work and made other sacrifices to be on the show and they shouldn't have to leave because the teacher isn't good enough to get results without causing extreme mental (and possibly physical) distress. Amanda did have to leave but it wasn't a choice as she was diagnosed with PTSD.

“I just know he’s a phenomenal dancer & I love watching him on Strictly.”

He has been accused of whatever the technical phrasing is in the workplace by three different work colleagues. What anyone’s opinion is on him, his dancing, her dress, Claudia, Tess, Saturday night telly, or how goddam sexy talented the music guy is is not relevant in the slightest.

cancion · 22/05/2024 02:47

Serious Workplace Misconduct I think it is.

jazzybelle · 26/05/2024 20:59

After the Jimmy Savile case, wouldn't there only have to be the slightest whisper of abuse and the BBC would act on it?

cancion · 26/05/2024 23:15

I don't think they understand what abuse/misconduct is though and there seem to be enough people on these threads who don't really get it either. A lot of people don't see any problem at all unless something constitutes physical or sexual assault. Everything else is just "strict training methods".

musicalfrog · 26/05/2024 23:22

No smoke without fire. This has been smouldering away for a few years now. It's a shame so many women had to be adversely affected before it got to this point.

I hope we don't have to watch him again this year.

saraclara · 26/05/2024 23:26

If a boss/manager/trainer in any workplace reduced a new employee to tears every day, and then two other trainees said he'd done the same to them, would anyone really be claiming that he just has high standards and the employees must be workshy? And would it make a difference if he was good looking?

FiveTreeHill · 26/05/2024 23:30

Let's be honest this has been going on for years. There's always been rumours he's unpleasant to his dance partners before amanda abbington came along. That was a big part of his personal with Rose "she's softened me".

If 3 seperate complaints have been made then of course he should step away. He is a good dancer, but that doesn't make him excempt from behaving appropriately

Peclet · 26/05/2024 23:38

Dance- super competitive, dictorial, fixated on body shape and strength.

Strictly dancers- from all the countries where standards and culture of care is varied.

BBC- soft cosy right on

the show- a recipe for disaster!

FatAndFiftySomething · 26/05/2024 23:39

I had no idea there had been previous complaints until all the publicity with Amanda Abington. Shocking really that it took her walking out for the BBC to do something.

Normally I just watch the Saturday night, stay up until the results come in then watch the best bits of the Sunday show.

Peclet · 26/05/2024 23:40

Amanda Abingdon- I don’t like her. I think she’s an absolute narcissist.

musicalfrog · 27/05/2024 00:00

What tf does that have to do with anything @Peclet ?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/05/2024 00:00

I think people gave him the benefit of the doubt because he got on well with Georgia, and he was so nice with Debbie McGee. Laura Whitmore should never have been paired with him (the producers should take some blame for that), so I think it's easy to say that partnership was always going to be awkward and tense.

But when three have the same complaints about him then I don't think you can just give him the benefit of the doubt — you have to take it seriously.

(One thing that I don't think the BBC took into account when they changed their recruitment system for the pros, is that on the competitive ballroom circuit, most amateurs don't really teach a huge amount — that's part of the rules being an amateur dancer, you can only teach under supervision of a professional.

Before series 8, I think all the pros were ballroom professionals. Most of the pro recruits after series 8 went from being good amateurs into performances dancers (stage shows etc) to Strictly. Strictly is quite possibly the first time they've taught a single adult one-to-one. Most ballroom teaching is group classes or couples.

In general, they do it very well. But it isn't like they've done the professional teaching exams and/or have lots of teaching experience.)

cancion · 27/05/2024 02:15

I find myself wondering how well he really got on with Debbie to be honest. She publicly defended him but what she said was pretty short and to the point. If I'd been asked to defend someone I genuinely thought had been accused of something he would never have done I'd have said a lot more and been a lot more emphatic. But maybe I'm wrong. Who knows.

Interesting point about the teaching situation.

HelenaWaiting · 06/06/2024 04:06

Well we all know who that male celebrity is. Although "celebrity" is quite a stretch.

Arconialiving · 06/06/2024 09:47

Assume it's Richie? Who else could it be? Wonder why he's taken so long to come forward?

Wish they'd get the investigation done asap as feels like it's been going on for ages!

cancion · 07/06/2024 17:41

Nobody able to read the Sunday Times piece?

Pancakeorcrepe · 11/06/2024 07:44

It was also interesting to see that Gio doesn’t want the rehearsal footage to be released to the lawyers.
