Missed the beginning, so maybe this was covered in the programme, but why does she refer to her mum and dad by their Christian names?

Not covered in the programme. She always did. He was a professor at the Uni of Kent so perhaps they were just that sort of people?

snottyshoulders · 01/04/2008 23:25

Don't know about the names, I wondered that too.....

LynetteScavo · 01/04/2008 23:26

Some people just do.

snottyshoulders · 01/04/2008 23:26

Whose line is it anyway

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 23:26

lol snotty

I did think it was odd when she said "Sean", I wondered who she was on about

snottyshoulders · 01/04/2008 23:27

I'm so pleased to see she's turned into such a lovely girl, and sooo beautiful. I remember the events so well.

snottyshoulders · 01/04/2008 23:29

I thought it was odd she said Lynn and Megan. She seemed a bit......distant from it all, doncha think?

Chuffinnora · 01/04/2008 23:29

So sad.
When her Dad filled up talking about the funeral I had a huge lump in my throat.

Certainly puts life's trivialities into perspective.

Was moaning that our car was broken into but.... I have nothing to moan about.

What a lovely young woman she has grown into.

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 23:30

she came across as very normal considering what the poor girl has been through. Although I do wonder what the long term effects of her apparent refusal to talk about the events surrounding her attack will be. It can't be healthy to keep it all inside forever, can it ?

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 23:32

Yes, I think the distance is her way of coping with it emotionally, but I wonder how long it will be (if ever) before it cannot be pushed back into the recesses of her mind.

snottyshoulders · 01/04/2008 23:34

Nom- That's what I mean, it was sad she couldn't talk to her Dad about it. However I suppose it highlights that talking about bad stuff a lot isn't necessarily the only way of coping. I hope it all doesn't just come out when she's older.

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 23:36

Me too.

roisin · 01/04/2008 23:45

Good programme.
I read his book some years back, and regretted it.
There's quite a bit of gruesome detail: more than I would want anyway. (I never read DM or similar so am coccooned from this sort of thing.) I found reading it so traumatic, I've completely blanked it from my memory, and I can't remember the exact details I found so upsetting.

So I'm actually not at all surprised by her means of coping.

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 23:47

I don't think anyone is surprised by the coping mechanism, just concerned as to whether it is sustainable as a long term strategy.

sphil · 02/04/2008 13:55

I admired Sean Russell's honesty when talking about the media intrusion.
