delilabell · 21/03/2024 22:36

I feel its dramatic to say a breakdown but I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going through now .
When I'm in a dark place I watch dark things but I know this isn't good for me..
Please could I have some ideas of things to watch?
I love dinner ladies, vicar of dibly, ghosts and gavin and Stacey.
I also love things like Stacey Solomon sort your life out and things with Phil and kirsty.
I have access to everything other than apple TV.
Thank you

Hence the name - I recently had an ND burnout and needed a couple of months off. I’ve watched plenty of TV. My feel good shows are many that have been mentioned Schitt’s creek, Death in paradise, Taskmaster, Dinnerladies, The Good Place, How I Met your mother (although it does make me cry in places), Brooklyn 99..
when you’re a bit better, I do love Crazy ex-girlfriend. Might be a bit too close to home
at the moment though.
Hope you feel better soon 💐

Bill Bailey's Walking programme on C4 - he does with other celebs
Offspring (oldie but goodie/funny Aussie show had 7 seasons which should keep you going!)
Goggle Box always has me laughing out loud which I notice as I don't do it enough!

Springisintheairohyeah · 21/03/2024 23:33

Detectorists every time

webster1987 · 21/03/2024 23:33

MrsBobtonTrent · 21/03/2024 22:43

Detectorists is my go to funny, gentle, restorative watch.

I second this!

When I feel like that I watch Friends on repeat! Also Big Bang Theory.

My DC loves Big Bang Theory he's watched every episode at least 3 times over.

Fruityoranges · 21/03/2024 23:48

The Other One on iPlayer, funny and not too stressful to watch, great acting. It got me through a difficult time, along with Friday Night Dinner and Car Share.

DinosaurOfFire · 21/03/2024 23:56

Community
Motherland
Call the Midwife
The Durrells
Downton Abbey
Poldark
Big Bang Theory
Young Sheldon (spin off of Big Bang Theory)
The IT Crowd

Are all some of my "comfort" watches which also draw me into the storylines. The BBC 1990s version of Pride and Prejudice is great too.

DetOliviaBenson · 21/03/2024 23:58

Friends (was my go to when I had PND).
How I Met Your Mother
Everybody Loves Raymond
Seinfeld
The Inbetweeners (acquired taste, but cringingly funny)
Derry Girls

Cartoons you loved when you were a kid?

QueenBitch666 · 22/03/2024 00:11

When I had a breakdown I started watching Desperate Housewives. Not my usual go to choice but I found that I loved it.
Also recommend Schitts Creek
Superstore
The Detectorists
Kim's Convenience
I hope you feel well soon Flowers

unsync · 22/03/2024 00:33

I mainly stayed in bed and slept. I couldn't concentrate enough for TV, but found listening to music OK. When I felt well enough, I spent a lot of time researching different coping mechanisms. I hope you make a swift recovery.

AliceMcK · 22/03/2024 00:40

I’ve just binge watched Fat Friends, I’d never seen it before and loved it.

Only Fools and Horses makes me laugh every time
Agath Christie Marple’s
Derry Girls
Young Sheldon
The Middle
Big Bang Theory
Ackley Bridge
Hope Street - a bit naf but ok light hearted police show
Two Doors Down
Stella

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 22/03/2024 08:35

Oh yes
Definitely motherland
Atypical is really well done
Inbetweeners I love but crude

Also
I really adore "love on the spectrum" but some find it uncomfortable. I have a ASD young adult who
Presents as low support but has her mental health struggles. I adore every single person. They are so so honest. No malice at all in any of them and when they find love it's simply the most heartwarming thing you can ever see. I absolutely love it.
I don't find it gratuitous. It's very well done and they producers seem very supportive.

Newnamesameoldlurker · 22/03/2024 08:37

You've had some great recs- I'd add gilmore girls on netflix.
Hope you feel better soon op

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 22/03/2024 08:45

My go to in times of illness or comfort
Is Jane Austin

Faves
Being

Price and prejudice bbc version Colin firth

Any other bbc Jane Austin

Film sense and sensibility Emma Thompson version

StevieNicksWannabe · 22/03/2024 08:50

The Good Place, on Netflix. It's my go-to for depressed times.

sashh · 22/03/2024 09:00

Try the US ghosts, it isn't as bad as US remakes normally are and it has more episodes and ghosts.

The actors from Ghosts have done a few bits on Youtube, one they are reading out excerpts from the Ghosts book.

I'm rewatching The Rookie at the moment, there are 4 series. It's an odd mix of amusing and deadly serious. Series 5 is just going out in the USA.

Another vote for Young Sheldon, I'm hooked even though I have never watched the IT crowd.

Avenue 5 is bit of a marmite programme, Hugh Laurie as the captain of an interstellar space cruise ship that goes off course. Surprisingly it is a comedy.

Hellohihola · 22/03/2024 09:04

Sorry to hear what you are going through.

i recently had a full mental breakdown and i am in recovery. All I could have on tv whilst in crisis mode was Friends to keep what I was watching light hearted (although struggled to concentrate). I would try to stay away from anything negative to pull you out of this dark space (I know easier said than done).

Be kind to yourself, it’s a lot x

ssd · 22/03/2024 09:10

Schitts creek
The detectorists
Malcolm in the middle
Downten abbey
Kath and kim

mondaytosunday · 22/03/2024 10:07

Im watching The Gentlemen - first series hopefully to be renewed! It's excellent. Not the light humour you have listed though but very entertaining.

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 22/03/2024 10:37

webster1987 · 21/03/2024 23:33

I second this!

I’m finding it hard to get into this. I’ve turned it on and off and am still on the second episode.

I loved Friday Night Dinner (laugh out loud funny) Motherland, Everyone Loves Raymond, The Office (UK), After Life (imo the best series ever made) and others like The Apprentice, The Great Pottery Throwdown, Handmade and the jewellery version one too.

delilabell · 22/03/2024 10:40

Thank you so much everyone, some lovely ideas. I'm watching sewing bee at the moment. ( the Joe lycett years) x

@Bringtheweatherwithyou Detectorists is definitely a slow burn, but once you're hooked, you're hooked.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 22/03/2024 17:11

Agree with The Marvellous Mrs Maisel!
