Constantly rewatching stuff

When it's down time and I have time to myself (DD was out with her amazing grandparents today), I just rewatch stuff that I've seen before. Find it comforting, but makes me feel really thick. But I feel like I don't have the bandwidth for new 'material'. Watched the BBC Pride & Prejudice for the millionth time. Loved it. But feel thick. Like I'm on a weird loop. Not sure what I'm asking.

I do the same. I love bbc p&p too! Where do you watch it please as it isn't on iplayer?

I have watched all of Modern Family and What We Do In The Shadows and Always Sunny a few times (skipping the episodes I don't like)

Cotswoldbee · 14/02/2024 17:51

We find there is so little on TV nowadays that we are interested in that we are re-watching a lot of old favourites.
Luckily we have a large (ok, huge, massive!!!) DVD collection and just pick a film, series, comedy as we like. Most have been watched multiple times.

Ready4ActionRyderSir · 14/02/2024 17:54

Nowt wrong with that. I often do the same!

Yes I do this...

I have about five shows I've watched every episode hundreds of times but I still keep watching them

Prizefighter · 14/02/2024 18:07

We re-watch so much. I find looking for new stuff can be irritatingly stressful. So we just watch re-runs of the Big Bang Theory.

RunnyPaint · 14/02/2024 18:13

We only have so much emotional energy, so it's better to take comfort in the familiar than risk wasting effort on something too demanding! It means we can be nicer to people in real life 😁

unlikelychump · 14/02/2024 18:15

The Durrell's is perfect for this. It is just hysterical

Dapbag · 14/02/2024 18:30

We are the same, it's comforting, relaxing and you know you're going to like it.

We've re-watched Blandings, Detectorists, All Creatures Great and Small and The Durrells several times.

Life can be so stressful and sometimes it's just bliss not to be challenged.

MassiveOvaryaction · 14/02/2024 21:34

Absolutely. Rewatch lots of things too. Dh sent me this once and I think it captures the reason.

Constantly rewatching stuff
Shnowdrops · 14/02/2024 21:51

100% the same here and not bothered in the slightest. I'm happy watching Frasier on repeat from now until the end of time.

Deafening · 14/02/2024 21:59

I do the same.

Scootboot · 14/02/2024 22:04

BBC p&p is a salve to modern living. I treat it as a regular detox.

We re-watch a lot of light shows because we cant seem to find many recent ones that are any good. It feels like so much is churned out now but none of it is the same quality. We rewatch the office, parks and rec, the league.

allnewfor2024 · 14/02/2024 22:08

The IT crowd is my comfort blanket. And Yes Minister/ Prime Minister.
Where can I watch the Durrells?
I couldn't cope with watching The Detectorists again - absolutely loved it first time, but it's too emotional to watch again for me.

Midsomer Murders is my go to repeat series. I’ve rewatched Downton Abbey as well. Delighted there is a new series in the offing, but I’ll miss Maggie Smith in this one.

Been watching MM backwards for a few months now.
Started with the latest episodes and have been working back to the older ones, in correct (but reverse) order.
On episode-6 now.

When done will move on to Poirot (David Suchet of course).

Last year I did Endeavour, Morse and Lewis in the correct order.

Tend to watch either when doing the ironing or just chilling out of an evening.

Aroundthewaygirl · 15/02/2024 18:47

I do this all the time. I have about 10 shows I've watched 10-20 times. I find it hard to focus and get into a show and if it doesn't capture my attention quickly then I usually give up on it. So going to my favorite oldies but goodies is my way of avoiding that - I know I'm going to enjoy it without forcing myself to stick with it.

Umanresources · 15/02/2024 20:49

I watch Poirot too, but if I watch (or read) Curtain, Poirot's Last Case, I immediately have to watch another one, so I'm not sad.

BebbanburgIsMine · 15/02/2024 21:06

I have lost count of how many times I've watched The Last Kingdom.

Such a fantastic show, the best cast, the best fans, made some good friends in the various facebook group.

It's just the best thing that's ever been on tv.

Destiny Is All!

Herbusyness · 15/02/2024 21:13

Our whole family is word-perfect on the entire Motherland series. We also watch the IT crowd and Friday Night Dinner on a loop. Feel good TV.

Weirdly, the more choice we have, the less we can find which appeals.

99% of the time nowadays, terrestrial TV is 💩

tourdefrance · 15/02/2024 21:18

I think this is fine. Would you be so critical of a friend who enjoyed rereading a favourite book? As pp say, sometimes it’s just easier to watch something you know you’ll enjoy rather than forcing yourself to watch something you are meant to enjoy (but don’t) or risk being disappointed.

Easterness · 15/02/2024 21:19

IT crowd, Mighty Boosh, Westworld, Lost. That's my list

Mementomorissons · 15/02/2024 21:22

Surely you'd listen to the same song many times as well? Or look at the same painting, or do the same exercise routine. I think it's the same thing, and I personally think it's makes you more interesting. At least you really know and love a few things rather than just watching anything aimlessly

JewelleryCat · 15/02/2024 21:23

I agree with bbc p&p there’s just something about it which is comforting. Same with downton abbey but it won’t be the same without Maggie Smith though I am interested in where the new series will head and which direction

Motherland is excellent. Funny and sad. Amanda is iconic.
I must rewatch for the sixth time.
