Why does it make me feel like this?

I am 35 years old and a reader, meaning I read full-on novels every day. My living room is shared with my kids(14 + 15), my husband, and my mother who lives with us for care. There are two televisions in our living room because we are all gamers too and it makes it easier to play games together.

Here is MY problem. I hate watching TV. I hate it, if something is interesting I want to watch I go on YouTube and watch what my hubby calls Autist TV, where someone explains the most important parts of the program in a monotone voice. I am unable to ignore the telly when it is on though, it doesn't matter what a person is watching, I get sucked in and can't ignore it. The problem is a have physical reactions to watching TV that highly irritate me. If it's an action/horror/suspense program I will shake uncontrollably and feel like I'm cold, even wrapped up it doesn't stop. If it's romance I get a lump in my throat that hurts makes me feel like I'm going to cry, and I get shakey. I hate watching TV because it makes my body do things I don't like.

My family is always asking me to watch things, I have explained for years why I don't like them and they get mad at me when they find out I watched a breakdown of it on YouTube. I don't mind going to the cinema to watch films though. It is just TV. It doesn't even matter if the TV is at a friend's, restaurant, doctor's etc. I can't make myself ignore them, it's like they have gravity that doesn't let me go and it upsets me. I just want to read my books and watch YouTube videos without upsetting people. I don't know what to do.

(I didn't really know where to put this post, i am sorry if it is in the wrong place)

Have you tried wearing headphones and facing away? Or is there anything you can do with the layout of the room eg put some bookshelves around a corner and make a reading nook? Otherwise, what about reading in bed? (My old fave)

Sometimes you don’t people’s permission or agreement to carve out space for yourself. Two tvs, 3 adults and 2 teens in general sounds a bit overwhelming.
