youve revealed yourself to be a bully quite clearly and I have a write to post . Maybe you should leave the thread ? A grown adult unable to move on from a political topic .

Sumthingsweet · 04/02/2024 19:54

Sorry that’s right - can spell but was distracted by my little one

I think Karren is an utter cow and could easily have told them about the crumble mix up. It was an honest mistake but she wanted them to look stupid.

I was more annoyed at the idiot who forgot to add the flour to the brownies. Why would you admit on TV that you can't cook? What, you can't read/follow step by step instructions?

I like 'lake jumping girl' - she's the fitness trainer isn't she? There's definitely a market for women-only workouts, especially post-partum workouts.

billysboy · 05/02/2024 06:29

Alan Sugar invested in a gym last year

by the look of the trees in the background it was filmed last spring / summer

Fizbosshoes · 05/02/2024 11:40

I've watched the apprentice from the start when Tim won series 1...but it's gradually got more and more stupid and farcical.

Like pp have said why pay "per head" when they're making the food themselves. If they're making it themselves why can't they source the ingredients elsewhere??
The crumble/breadcrumb mix up was stupid and probably set up.
Most of the tasks are set up to fail and expect them to do everything...which isn't really indicative of a RL situation.
I gave up half way through, I'm not sure I can get invested any more

Ooooooooy · 05/02/2024 19:48

@Fizbosshoes yep agree. I know the apprentice is a bit of fun and not intended to be a professional, corporate environment…however I wish they’d revamp some of this! I don’t see the big deal in allowing the candidates to google things, use phone maps, research and go to shops/caterers of their choice etc to work on more even parameters to the real world. The unnecessary blockers are not particularly entertaining

Yes, it's all very predictable.

Also the way they price/negotiate things seems really arse about tit. Why promise the moon on a stick when you don't have any idea of how much the client has to spend? Wouldn't you find out budget/requirements first and then come up with sonething that fitted? (I don't work in that type of field so maybe that's normal?)

I know it's meant to be entertaining or amusing if/when something goes wrong or someone cocks up...but honestly it's as if they set up every task to go embarrassingly wrong, to make people look idiotic and for maximum cringe.

You can't imagine Ruth badger doing this version of the show!

C8H10N4O2 · 07/02/2024 10:02

@BoreOfWhabylon
He's still on the Medical Register and appears to be with a locum service, which can be very lucrative. The title 'Dr' is clearly very important to him and he won't want to give that up, so he'll need to keep on with the doctoring to maintain his registration and use of the title, just not employed directly by the NHS

He will need to be registered to practice in the NHS but I don't believe there are any rules about using the courtesy title.
There are a few medical graduates in the media who never practiced or registered as doctors but use the title commercially where it presumably adds some status to whatever they move into - Mosley for example selling health solutions, books and tv appearances but went into journalism upon graduation.

Its always struck me as an anomaly and dubious use of the title. I knew a few medical graduates who chose not to go into clinical practice and none used the courtesy title unless they also had a PhD and went into research.

Is there a Twat Agency somewhere in TellyLand from where they recruit these Bozos? I wonder how long it takes to recruit enough people that fulfil their cast requirements.

I was thinking exactly that, although I have no doubt The Badger would just do most of the task herself and still romp home the winner. Does anyone know what she went on to do?

I can't imagine why allegedly very clever and successful people willingly go on a programme that makes them look like absolute idiots? It's not like it's new, every task is designed to go wrong and huge potential for humiliation either by the way its set up or the way its edited. There must be easier ways to get nicer people than Aksn Sugar people to invest in your business?

Flamme · 07/02/2024 13:04

I doubt they'd take The Badger now. They don't seem to feel there is enough entertainment value in recruiting sensible people who won't do stupid things.

On a quick google -

Badger has her own consultancy firm, Ruth Badger Consultancy Ltd, with offices in Salford Quays, Salford, and runs North West Money, a company which provides finance for homeowners.

According to the website for the consultancy, it's been going for 18 years, so presumably it's pretty well-established.

I think you're right, although generally the expectation is that someone using the title is, in fact, a 'proper doctor'. It's clearly very important to him as he keeps banging on about his credentials.

Mosely has, I think, stopped using the title.

And remember 'Dr' Gillian McKeith? Grin

SabrinaThwaite · 07/02/2024 16:03

My DH applied for the first series, and got as far as screen tests. I don't think he was exciting enough TV material to make the cut (also not helped by slagging off Spurs to the interviewer, who then claimed to be a "close personal friend of Spurs Chairman SurAlan" - which wasn't news to DH).

evervine · 08/02/2024 04:59

How the hell Mr DJ did not get fired for being a shit leader (not listening and talking over people), a big head (we don't need to know how fabulous you think you are), an idiot (getting everyone to do that dancing when you are making them late for lunch and everything else), and not reading the room (could he not see the participants had no interest whatsoever in his dancing?) I do not know.
They are all a load of idiots, aren't they?

I agree with all that, but why did nobody mention how he was responsible for the huge delay. I felt certain the DJ would be fired. He was completely overbearing and without any self awareness. I feel he's been kept in for the future entertainment value.

Agree, he also gave no clear direction at all in the early meeting and immediately pounced on other peoples mistakes when he saw an opportunity to shift the blame. He will be fired for not taking responsibility in future tasks. LS hates that. The other guy was terminally boring and reminded me of Ryan from last year.. who was actually quite interesting

Has anyone ever heard of him?? What’s his reputation like in the real world?

newnamethanks · 08/02/2024 06:57

Ruth Badger, a real character with a strong work ethic. Hope she's doing well. One of the few memorable Apprentice applicants.

NetZeroZealot · 08/02/2024 08:25

New sidekick Tim was also a previous winner. Wonder what he makes of the shitshow it's become?

Fizbosshoes · 08/02/2024 09:31

Tim won the first series and I'm sure it was nowhere near as ridiculous then.
The prize then was to work for Lord Sugar rather than him as an investor.
I liked Margaret and Nick. Karren (that's Barroness Brady to you) seems a lot meaner but maybe that's all put on for the show.
I'm not even sure what the point of Tim and Karren is other than to make snide remarks to the camera

NetZeroZealot · 08/02/2024 13:05

Another thing I find intensely irritating is the promos for the programme, with LS expounding pompously "This is one of the toughest processes around".

WTF is a process ??

A tough process is chemotherapy, running a marathon, having a difficult birth.

It's a fucking game show not a process.

newnamethanks · 08/02/2024 18:30

Wheres GregG? "Processes don't get tougher than this" he shouted. How come Mr Wallace isn't running around on this programme? He seems to be in everything else.
