Watched this last night and just want someone to discuss it with!!! There are some threads but they are all quite old.

I personally loved it but I can see why it's got mixed reviews. I'd heard a lot about the bathtub scene but I found the grave scene far more shocking.

Also seeing the sister in the bath...didn't expect that. What happened to her?

Slightly confused as to why Oliver felt the need to lie so much. Obviously he wanted to be friends with Felix and orchestrated the whole meeting. But why does having drug addled and dead parents make him anymore interesting?

The final scene was just genius for me.

I'd watch it again, it was gratuitous but very entertaining and the parents were brilliantly cast.

I’ve just finished watching and came on to see if there was a thread!

I enjoyed it, wasn’t what I was expecting at all - some of it sad, some shocking (totally agree on the grave bit!) and some really funny

Watched it at Christmas and wished I'd spent my time doing something else. I found it to be rather puerile and wanting to shock for the sake of it - although it failed, badly, but more, just had me rolling my eyes.

I think Oliver lied to make himself more 'extreme' for Felix, so that he was the new pet for that summer, which seemed to be what Felix and his family enjoyed. Being from a fairly ordinary middle class family wouldn't have reeled them in so well. It also plays with the audience's sympathies.

As to what happened in the bath, I'm not sure either. It's implied that Oliver supplied the razor blades, but whether he killed her or not I don't think it's clear.

I think it was probably calculated and deliberate as the rest of them were. Chilling but very well done I thought.

I couldn’t understand how he got away with removing her breathing tube at the end. Surely that would’ve been questioned? But obviously that would spoil it all.

I just watched it, loved Richard E Grant as the dad! Is Oliver meant to have killed him or was he just biding his time?

I think it was implied that the dad killed himself. Elsbeth said something along the lines of 'Im surprised he lasted as long as he did' which makes me think he never got over all the tragedy.

You'd think such a number of deaths within such a wealthy family would have been investigated more but the film was obviously more about gratuitous entertainment than facts.

Because class tourism works both ways. Think of the lyrics to Common People. If I’m being cynical, I’d say Felix wants Oliver around for the same reason Oliver wants to be around him.

I love the layers and texture of the story.

Emerald Fennell said that it's a story of obsession and she gives more insight about it on interviews.

The lunch scene is just perfection.
