What are your most heart breaking moments on kid's TV? It can be either from modern day kids TV or from when you were growing up. Mine are:
*On Topsy and Tim. When Tim goes to his 'friend' Tony Welsh house. Tony and his new mate completely ignored Tim. You can see him crying inside until Tony's dad invited him to help out in the garden.

  • On Old Jack's boat Christmas special. When he thinks all his friends are too busy to meet up to commemorate his dead wife. Yet they all surprise him at the end for a proper sing song

Yes this one stands out for me. It was such a shock!

'Debbie!'

Bold’s death in Farthing Wood.

Bambi’s Mum.

Carried out of cinema bawling aged 4. Still can’t watch it.

Same. Over 40 years ago. It's is banned at home.
"Motherrrrrrrr" (shudders and bursts into tears).

LadyGAgain · 16/01/2024 22:48

Another one. In an episode of Muppet Babies, Gonzo loses Camilla his cuddly toy chicken. His sense of loss and despair made me weep (I still blame Bambi).

Elliania · 16/01/2024 22:48

A movie rather than TV but when Artax the horse drowns in the Swamp of Sadness in Never Ending Story. Deep DEEP trauma as a kid.

LadyGAgain · 16/01/2024 22:51

When ET goes home and the kids are all crying.
(Another loss. I blame Bambi).

Land before time (see above).

Therapy needed.

@Heather37231 my DF told me that Bambi's mother was shot with a tranquilliser dart, taken to the vet and released in Richmond Park. He even pointed her out to me. It wasn't until I watched it with my own children that I realised what really happened!

crumblingschools · 16/01/2024 22:51

@pinkhousesarebest same as me, and Judy’s death was one of the first saddest things I had seen on tv, but couldn’t remember what the series was called!

Henry getting bricked in on Thomas the Tank Engine😦😭😭😭-absolutely sadistic

Otherwise, I was gutted when they sacked Geoffrey from Rainbow and messed up the whole show when I was about 7. I remember I was fucking furious.

It's like Bad Girls when Bastard Fenner bricks up Yvonne!

There was a documentary on kids tv which was supposed to be jolly documentary about a family who bought a zoo. However the mum had died of breast cancer. For some reason the programme makers had pressed ahead. There was dad on his own working away. They interviewed the kids in a “isn’t it great” way and the little girl burst into tears and said “I just want my mum”. Christ I and both my then primary age dds were all in tears.

That is lovely. What a nice DF.

It was Children's Ward (1989/90) for me when one of the characters died in surgery...really upsetting and made me terrified of having an operation!

Wasn't the same actress who would later play Maria on coronation Street? I remember that episode. In fact children's ward was pretty heavy going for a kid's program

Bobbie crying "Daddy, my Daddy!" in the Railway Children always makes my eyes water. It's a happy moment but so emotional.

My Dad died when I was 23 and I haven't been able to watch it without sobbing since. For years, I had to leave the room before the end because I couldn't bear it! I'm in my 50s now!

And of course the Land Before Time. Littlefoot 😭

Floogal · 16/01/2024 23:07

I remember this one off kids drama called the tide race (I think that's what it was called). This boy with down syndrome laughing at his sister's boyfriend who is mocking him. Then he gets sad when his sister defends him. Awful scene

When the rabbits are killed in Watership down

This!

Ebeneser · 16/01/2024 23:15

I think I still have the original Watership down on video. Also I forgot about Tarka the Otter. Might have that on video as well!

So many Bluey episodes.

Sleepytime, The Baby Race, Onesies just to name a few.

Oh god. Sleepytime EVERY SINGLE TIME! If I hear those movements of Holst's The Planets I now have a Pavlovian cry response!

Renamed · 16/01/2024 23:16

There was a Disney non-animated film about children and pit ponies working in a mine. I was taken to see it when I was about 7 and loved it, so when it came to our local about a year later my mum took me again… she was then quite embarrassed when I cried all the way home because the pit pony DIES, somehow I hadn’t properly understood this the first time.
