Yes I agree.

Even the opening credits are brilliant.

ArmadilloDaMan · 17/03/2008 09:16

The opening credits make me squirm - they are really well done.

Tis great.

JodieG1 · 17/03/2008 09:17

It's brilliant. I saw the series a while ago and can't wait for the next one.

DANCESwithaMuffinTop · 17/03/2008 09:20

No. Didn't like it. Too grim, gave up half way through the first series on Sky. Didn't the bloke who plays Dexter either. Opening credits go on for HOURS...

Bah Humbug.

constancereader · 17/03/2008 09:31

It was a fine line with me too DANCES - I was poised between fascination and disgust. The fascination won, which is why I think it is so good. If my morning sickness had not abated by episode two I might have been sitting firmly in your camp.

Cappuccino · 17/03/2008 09:59

oh but it is funny

it is very funny

2nd series is even funnier.

The humour is what makes it absolutely fab. Plus the eye candy.

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 15:19

fantastic! I was totally addicted!
Anyone seen the second series with that actress from Hustle?

ArmadilloDaMan · 17/03/2008 15:21

God she is annoying. I wanted to slap her. Really really hard.

Gah - low point of the season.

But it gave me a chance to scream 'no Dexter, why oh why' at the screen adn to be fair that's half the fun of watching tv (specially as it pisses off dp and lodger so much).

ArmadilloDaMan · 17/03/2008 15:23

I didn;t think they'd find a woman more annoying than Deb (but at least you can pity her in a 'oh you brainless bint' kinda way), but hell, they managed it.

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 16:37

Series 2 spoilers

She revealed far too much of her, hahem, character! I really didnt want to see so much of her. To start with I thought she was good, I liked her in Hustle, but by the end I was releaved to see her exit the series!

Ah Deb, poor girl. Do you think she really is his half sister, or did I imagine that bit?

ArmadilloDaMan · 17/03/2008 16:55

Oh yeah I'd forgotten that.

i think she really is.

The more I see of their dad the more I dislike him

MamaChris · 17/03/2008 17:14

2nd series? when? what channel? big dexter fan (books good too, but TV better), but not even heard 2nd series had been made let alone broadcast. did I miss it?

glitterfairy · 17/03/2008 17:15

Dexter is great. Love the sick humour as well.

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 17:20

What are the books like? Do they have the same humour?

The second series was on a while ago in America, so I expect it will be here soon. It was really really good!

MamaChris · 17/03/2008 17:28

tv series is based on the books, but I think better on tv. in the books, the humour's there, but the gore and suspense definitely better in technicolour.

will keep eyes peeled for 2nd series - can't wait

Lizzer · 17/03/2008 17:29

We loved it so much we named our son after him (no not really btw we just liked the name!)

We're just starting to watch season2 now and right back into it. You can download it but don't think its been aired in uk yet?(i might be wrong)

policywonk · 17/03/2008 17:31

I hate it.

Sorry to be, y'know, negative. But I think it's amoral shite. (Mind you only watched first episode.)

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 17:31

lol Lizzer great name!

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 17:38

Thats one of the more interesting psychological subplots tho, how he was brought up to be a killer, how he choses his victims, and how he is perhaps, perhaps not, normalising and finding his 'real' self. Harry's code is becoming less important. His relationship with Rita (always want to call her Beryl, dont know why!) starts as a fake to make him seem normal and is now really important to him. His development is really interesting. I think he is becoming more moral, then he does something so awful in such a cold and detatched way. Great stuff! I think its an intelligent program.

I understand why you didnt follow the series tho, the first episode is a shock, and I wonder if I am now becoming desensitised (sp?) to the killing. Those opening credits are so impressive.

policywonk · 17/03/2008 17:44

I see your point. I think I'm just too impatient/unsubtle - can't stand watching people commit violent acts without much moral context (also hate The Sopranos for the same reason).

I really, REALLY objected to the 'mother of all rape websites' bit in the first episode, that's what really made me want to put my foot through the screen. Mention such a thing - hmm OK if you must. But why was it necessary to show us an extended clip? Because I'm sure none of us could imagine what such a thing might consist of - oh no. Grrr. Completely gratuitous IMO.

JodieG1 · 17/03/2008 22:53

The thing is that he is being moral in his killings, he was brought up to chose his victims in a certain way to fulfill his urges (and better than killing innocents) and his childhood was a factor in that. Not sure if that part has been told yet in the series so far as I've seen the most recent ones.

I've heard of and glimpsed films that are far more violent than this and at least this has a good storyline and likeable main character. Saw 1,2 and 3, hostel 1 and follow ons etc, they are far worse.

Joash · 17/03/2008 22:59

It is good and funny and all the other things mentioned here, but, ArmadilloDaMan - where is the so-called 'eye candy'? - Seen all the episodes so far and must have missed something

drdad · 18/03/2008 20:08

Hmmmm... surely morality is the problem here. We have a show in which the main character is a psychopath, which would be tough viewing by anyone's standards. So we have a likeable psychopath, who is also a moral psychopath, and so credibility takes an early bath.

It's slick and entertaining but preposterous. Have to admit I keep on watching it, though.

The opening credits remind me of the ones to American Psycho.

Notyummy · 19/03/2008 12:37

Love it, love it.

Fancy Dexter too.

Does that make me weird?
