Slightly confusing

starts Monday 1st. E2 is Tuesday 2nd the 3456 will be on Sundays

The Tourist season 2 will see Jamie Dornan return as Elliot as the story comes to Ireland.

With the action switching from Australia's Outback to Ireland, the landscape looks very different from when we last saw Elliot. But whether he's running away from some mysterious pursuers or covered in blood, his situation doesn't seem to have improved too much!

The Tourist season 2 plot
The first series started with 'The Man' — whose name was revealed to be Elliot — waking up in Australia with total amnesia before he and Constable Helen Chambers (Danielle Macdonald) became embroiled in a cat-and-mouse game with mysterious figures chasing them across Australia.

The BBC has confirmed the new series will see Helen accompanying Elliot back to Ireland as he tries to rediscover his roots, where they soon find themselves dragged into the dangerous whirlwind of his past life. An official synopsis reads...

"After their adventure in the Australian Outback, The Tourist’s epic second series follows Dornan and Macdonald’s characters Elliot and Helen as they travel to Ireland together.

In an attempt to rediscover Elliot’s roots following his memory loss, they’re dragged into the dangerous whirlwind of his past life and are confronted by friends and foes both old and new, including Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh), Orla (Nessa Matthews), Fergal (Mark McKenna), and Frank (Francis Magee).
"Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill) becomes embroiled in the crossfire between the McDonnells and the Cassidys as the secrets of the family rivalry unravel."

I binged as it was annoying me and I just wanted to get to the end. Talk about complicated family relationships 😳 That said, the last little intrigue might pull me in again if there is a series 3.

The TV pace versus binge watch is an interesting debate. For me to go TV pace it has to be something like Happy Valley, that I can’t wait for, but want to savour.

Very, very occasionally I ditch something as not for me. Other times I’m not that invested, but want to see it through, like Fool Me Once. I started so I finished 😉 but wouldn’t bother knowing what I know now.

It’s extraordinary how viewing options and habits have changed since you either watched it, or lost it. There’s a generation now who simply don’t consider watching linear TV as broadcast. Maybe it’s a direct result of so much choice. Maybe so much choice reduces the quality? The last thing I absolutely cherished and relished per viewing opportunity, was Slow Horses.

Mama Cassidy is my new girl crush 🥰

Ethan and Ruari, omg they need their own series! Loved those two - Shortbread! 🤣

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 11:15

So, Elliot was a secret agent all along?
He should have read that file on him tbh.
He was horrible in season one , must have been all a cover. Although the lady who was a drug mule didn't think much of him.
If there is season 3 , then he will have to find out who he is surely ?

Pinkbelt · 29/01/2024 11:16

Hope there's a season 3, wonder where it will be filmed this time? Beautiful scenery in both series

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 11:18

I have never been to Ireland ( don't flame !!) but I quite fancy it now I've seen this

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/01/2024 11:57

Happy valley you had to savour

No choice 😂😂

I don't get why channels show then all as surely downloading don't show in their figures for viewing

I'm Guessing there will be a copy of his file

I would have to read /be nosey even if I trusted /forgave

Or that she read it then sent it to him

Surely she wouldn't have paid the investigation firm and not been sent a copy first

So maybe she knows but he obv doesn't know they she knows .....

I've never known anyone who has a BARB reporting box, has anyone else?
I did hear a podcast though where they said that the first series of The Traitors UK wasn't considered to be a success, but ultimately it was the Iplayer streaming figures that bumped it right up there and so a second series was commissioned and off the back of its success, the decision was made to only stream the first three episodes and then it only got shown on mainstream TV.

biddyboo · 29/01/2024 17:33

I enjoyed it. Totally bonkers but I was ok with that. The only thing that bugged me was why did nobody question what had happened to Ruari's wife (friends, colleagues, family)?

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 18:48

Rurai clearly didn't have any family ! Plus he left his mum to fend for herself too ? Although I did binge watch it a while back and that might be wrong , my memory isn't what it once was !
The ending seemed a bit tagged on to have season 3 and for us to feel intrigued for him I think !

chickenpieandchips · 29/01/2024 18:59

Helen must have had the quickest recovery from abdominal surgery/issues. Kate could take some tips. I wonder if she'll be running around crime fighting next week!
And the accents. Said this before! Jamie is from NI, it's set in the South. Different country! Yet they ignored all the accents being different.
Bonkers but fun. Loved the comedy elements.

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 20:11

I did enjoy it overall
Was surprised at the ending. Episode five was surreal

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/01/2024 20:17

A secret agent ......

He did mention at the airport that he had gotten a carer in for his mother so they could go to Budapest. I'm not sure what the carer would have made of the smell from the decomposing body downstairs 😮🤔

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/01/2024 23:08

Wonder how long the body was dead for

Newgirls · 30/01/2024 09:10

Bonkers and sort of brilliant. What made that was the brilliant acting of rauri, ma Cassidy and frank. The two older gangsters acted like they were in Shakespeare while everyone else ran around in chaos. Bit too much random shooting of blokes sat in vans but otherwise loved it. I really hope we get spy caper next - Amsterdam/cool European cities?

Oppositioblue · 30/01/2024 12:22

Too many unanswered questions, particularly Ruairi and the dead body he has in his basement yet he is off with Ethan!

LadyEloise1 · 30/01/2024 12:53

We all have such different tastes. DH and I thought it was a pile of sh*te Smile

Newgirls · 30/01/2024 16:39

He buried it before he left - he went to buy the spade and gloves. So that’s fine then 😂

Oh yeah I'd forgotten that! I still don't understand why nobody questioned what happened to her. Was she a complete loner with no friends or family?

Newgirls · 30/01/2024 19:20

The neighbour said rauri didn’t have friends. I wonder if they assumed wife left him. Helen was very forgiving about the whole locking to the oven thing.

the80sweregreat · 30/01/2024 19:56

I did love Helen's ex Ethan !
He was so completely unaware of what was going on half the time. I could relate to this.
Annoying , but funny too

LadyEloise1 · 31/01/2024 00:31

Ethan was very funny.

EsmaCannonball · 31/01/2024 22:20

I enjoyed all the comedic weird stuff but found the gangster family feud storyline a bit tedious. It just felt like Elliot was constantly going to a meeting with someone only to find himself confronted by somebody else. It was very repetitive. I hope the next series has a more imaginative storyline but keeps the strangeness.
