We love watching the Julia Donaldson story on the BBC every year. This year’s was my favourite one yet, it was beautifully done and I did shed a tear or two.

Who else enjoyed it?

Was also interested to see if I was singing the tune right all this time... nope not in the slightest! Grin

whereaw · 25/12/2023 19:38

I'm interested to know everyone else's songs now!! Maybe we have it right

We loved it but they sang the song wrong and it made me sad.

I agree! My version is better!

I was left feeling really underwhelmed by the TMcT film. Nothing beats Stickman IMHO.

Loved it! I have been hoping they’d do tabby mctat for a few years now! Also enjoyed zagazoo also on iplayer.

Zagazoo was brilliant- so cleverly done!

twistandfart · 26/12/2023 09:11

I love Tabby McTat but I'm really really soppy and shed a tear every time I read the book to my DCs. As expected I was in tears yesterday!
My 14yo watched it with me, bless him.

TheSkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 26/12/2023 09:14

Ah we all watched it from ages 8 to 68, it was so lovely. I cried the whole way through!

Fairylightstwinkle · 26/12/2023 12:20

I think were going to watch it again today, it really was so lovely ☺️

I loved it and so did my cat who is having her first Christmas after being rescued from Cats Protection. She was mesmerised by it

I do hope they have all the cats neutered now. Bit irresponsible 😂

ColdinNovember · 26/12/2023 22:51

It was lovely my DC came home in the evening and we all snuggled up with our furry boy to watch it. Tears were shed.

Chuffaluffa · 26/12/2023 22:56

I loved it but… in my head it was set in Edinburgh and everyone was Scottish- it was very Alexander McCall smith’s Edinburgh book series-whose-name-I-can’t-remember, and I have to say I felt quite sad that it was English and set in london.

monor gripe though, beautifully done- my favourite Julia donaldson.

Chuffaluffa · 26/12/2023 22:56

*minor, even.

PurplePansy05 · 26/12/2023 23:00

I loved it, as did my 2.5 yo DS ❤️

TheCraicDealer · 26/12/2023 23:00

I also imagined it set in Edinburgh when reading the book! It was well done, Rob Brydon’s singing was very good wasn’t it. I love that he’s been in every single adaption so far.

I would love them to do The Scarecrow’s Wedding next, it’s basically a warning about fuckboys.

PracticalPatricia · 26/12/2023 23:05

The song was definitely 'wrong' to me as I sing a different tune. I also gave Tabby McTat a Scottish accent, but Sock was always English in my head - her voice was perfect to me in the film. I did find it a bit underwhelming. I really liked The Smeds and The Smoos last year, also the Zogs, Room on the Broom and Highway Rat were all good! I don't like the Gruffalo films at all for some reason

MrsRetriever · 26/12/2023 23:14

We’ve watched it three times, it’s lovely. The book has been a favourite for a couple of years so I’m pleased to see it on screen.

I like that the busker gets to visit the new home.

bookworm14 · 26/12/2023 23:24

We loved it too. The book is definitely set in Edinburgh though so I was a bit confused to see a red London bus in the film. I always assumed Prunella and Pat were academics at Edinburgh uni!

MolkosTeenageAngst · 26/12/2023 23:28

I enjoyed it but it paled in comparison to Mog’s Christmas on Channel 4 which I’d watched just a few hours earlier. I’ve never read Tabby McTat before whereas I grew up on Mog.

I loved it. Its a book we've had since DC was born and has always been my favourite!

Turns out I've been singing the tune ever so slightly wrong all these years though 😂

We decided it was them that had the tune wrong!

Haha I was thinking “my version of this sounds so different” - the difference being mine was tuneless 😂

MadCatLady27 · 26/12/2023 23:59

I nearly cried at the end!

ShortMotherfuckerWithTheIvoryHair · 27/12/2023 00:41

Never heard of it but just added it to my Wishlist - thanks!

89redballoons · 27/12/2023 07:42

Watching it for the second time this morning, at DS1's request (he just turned 4). It's wonderful. Just the right amount of tension and mild peril for a slightly sensitive preschooler, and yes, emotional for parents too. It's really thoughtfully done and not overly Christmas-y.

I may have cried at both Mog and this yesterday Blush think this is even better than Mog, though.

MissRabbit00 · 27/12/2023 08:35

You're right @Notmycircusnotmydonkeys - it was them that sang the wrong tune! 😂

I have no doubt we'll continue singing it the way we always have 🙂

I read somewhere that Julia Donaldson wanted the book to be set in London but the publishers insisted that it wasn't any specific city so the illustrations were made purposefully generic. I always thought the pictures looked like London though, so perhaps the publishers had a point, everyone reading it obviously has their own ideas about where it's supposed to be!

PurpleChrayne · 27/12/2023 08:47

The eternal question: are Pru and Pat mother and daughter, sisters, friends or partners? I like to think the latter! I also had them down as academics.
