The new drama (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/murder-is-easy-agatha-christie-bbc-trailer-newsupdate/) stars David Jonsson as Luke Fitzwill
iam, a man who is travelling on a train to London and meets Miss Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton).

On their journey into the city, she notifies him of some mysterious deaths in her sleepy English village of Wychwood under Ashe.

Then, when she's later found dead on her way to Scotland Yard, Fitzwilliam takes it upon himself to travel to said village to see what's going on for himself.

Along the way, he's met with suspicion and intrigue, but wants to get to the bottom of the mystery before the killer has the chance to strike again. But will he be able to figure out who's responsible in time?

Alongside Jonsson is a cast (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/agatha-christie-murder-easy-first-look-newsupdate/) jam-packed with well-known talent, including Morfydd Clark (Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/rings-of-power-star-criticism-newsupdate/)
), Tom Riley (
The Nevers (https://www.radiotimes.com/programme/b-3y828c/the-nevers/)
) and more. Keen to learn more about the new Agatha Christie adaptation? Read on to find out.

The two-part series will premiere on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday 27th December at 9pm.

But for the keenest of Christie fans, both episodes will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer from 6am that day.

For those wanting to watch it across the two evenings, the final second episode will then air the following night, Thursday 28th December, at 9pm.

But remember this will be tv paced

The cast of the new adaptation is led by Rye Lane (https://www.radiotimes.com/movies/rye-lane-soundtrack/) and Industry star David Jonsson as Luke Fitzwilliam, who is keen to investigate the string of mysterious deaths happening in Wychwood under Ashe.

Jonsson is joined by Morfydd Clark as Bridget, Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/downton-abbey-return-season-7-newsupdate/)) as Miss Pinkerton, Mark Bonnar (Guilt (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/guilt-season-4-explained/)) as Reverend Humbleby and Douglas Henshall (Shetland (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/shetland-season-9-release-date-bbc/)) as Major Horton, plus more.

Of course, as with any Christie tale, there's a batch of characters who we'll come to learn about over the episodes, and who may well be suspects in this twisty murder case.

@MissyB1 and @deadassjackie think we are the only 3 who like it

It was easy watching. Seeing more murders and possible romance

Make that 4 ! Just seen the first ep , it might be slower/lighter than other Agatha Christie adaptations but I like it too .

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2023 16:06

Hi fives @butterpuffed

As the regulars know I'm easy to please on tv and east watching

It’s Christmas we just want a little light entertainment not to have to self flagilate for our wicked colonial past.
They also need to get their historical facts correct. The newspaper hoarding mentioned the end of rationing so 1953/54? But then in the pub they said the doctor would only prescribe for paying patients but wasn’t the creation of the NHS 1948?
I’m sure if my memory is incorrect someone will correct me.

Piggywaspushed · 28/12/2023 17:40

People still had to pay. Many GPs were very resistant to the NHS and hung on to private practice for some time.

I don't think anyone was asking us to self flagellate.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2023 17:42

Seems the poor get codenine linctus and their deaths an accident

Where as the rich get proper doctor care and deaths Murder

And I doubt that a GP who believed in the Master Race would approve of the NHS!

Goddessonahighway · 28/12/2023 17:59

I enjoyed it too. Agreed that the lead did look very young at points, especially during the many long close ups. I was especially impressed he had taken black tie clothes with him - so handy. Never know when you might need them!

The bits showing colonialism and racism I didn't find jarring. Watched with my 12 year old so was good to pause, have a chat about it, and then carry on.

I liked the lighter tone of it too. What a contrast to Murder in Venice which took itself so seriously. More like this please!

CrossPurposes · 28/12/2023 18:06

I thought the wigs were very poor particularly on a major character. And maybe it was the UHD but Luke's blue suit was so intensely blue it almost hurt to look at.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2023 18:19

So do we think the doctor aka from ghosts is the killer

Or is it too obvious

I liked it too - heads and shoulders above the Channel 5 detective offering a couple of days ago.

Fleetheart · 28/12/2023 21:12

well I am quite enjoying it as my parents used to live in Tyninghame where it was filmed 🙂

Which is presumably why Bonnar and Henshall are in it...nice commute, easy money...

That freaked me out slightly, as I vaguely fancied Douglas Henshall in his dour jumpers as Perez, and definitely didn’t as the Major, and Mark Bonnar looked ancient as the vicar when it seems that five minutes ago he was the serial Shetland shagger Duncan Hunter!

DH was primarily fascinated by how a man who arrives in a village with a small overnight bag manages to produce evening dress, pristine tennis whites AND at least two suits out of it.

mynameiscalypso · 28/12/2023 21:26

@HappyBusman We were also very impressed by the packing skills.

MissHavershamReturns · 28/12/2023 21:37

Enjoyed, while acknowledging it was somewhat slight.

Oh good. We will watch it on catch up tomorrow!

longtompot · 28/12/2023 22:53

I watched part two this evening and really enjoyed it much more than the first. I think of the first half had the same pace it would have been better.
I won't give away who dunnit ;)

There was a scene where the chap was having breakfast and his egg looked so delicious I was craving one myself, so dd and I have just had a fried egg on a slice of Christmas. So nice.

AyrshireTryer · 28/12/2023 23:07

I liked it.
Droopy eye and all.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 29/12/2023 01:08

Ah it was good light entertainment for a murder mystery. Bridget's red dress was stunning. Easy going viewing with a large baileys and some chocolate.

Twonewcats · 29/12/2023 01:48

I didn't realize there were 2 threads for this. I commented on the other to say I really enjoyed it.
I'm not a reader so i had no clue about the book/plot, and so I just watched it as a two-part Christmas drama.
Didn't feel remotely preached to, and didn't really notice comments about colonialism etc at all

😄 the tiny suitcase that produces endless changes of elaborate dress fascinates and amuses me too.

We didn’t watch TV over Christmas as it was full on hosting, so when everyone had gone, it was comfy socks and pyjamas, stretched out on the sofa, and I watched it all the way through. Didn’t know the story, didn’t particularly critique the acting, appreciated the settings and costumes and enjoyed it on a kind of gentle Sunday evening level. Not that multiple murders are ever gentle, I mean more about that Midsomer vibe.

It made for a nice wind down and relax session.
