@PastorCarrBonarra yes, the bloody Sunday show gets on my nerves. I stay up on Saturday night until I’ve got the results anyway, then watch the upstairs bit with Claudia and the judges and the song performance on catch up.

FatAndFiftySomething · 10/06/2024 23:29

Also, I remember them having dances sometimes by champions, like one time they had the world champions at the Tango or something. They were phenomenal. You think the celebs are good until you see the champions really going for it!

And don’t be giving high marks too early, because there’s nowhere else to go. If you get a ten one week but you’re even better the following week, all you can get is a ten. Maybe aim for a top mark of six in week one?

FatAndFiftySomething · 10/06/2024 23:30

It all gets a bit cheap and tacky. It needs some class putting back into it.

I’ll still watch it though 😂.

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 10/06/2024 23:37

'It's never too early for a ten from..."
Yes it is, put it away love.

Start with the cha cha or waltz.

Don't have celebs who are effectively pro dancers.

Bin theme weeks (if they want to shake thinks up have partner swap or something).

Bin 'couples choice' how the hell can something with no rules be judged?

Bring back arm hankies.

Be consistent in judging rather than nit-picking one contestant and praising another when they do the same thing.

thebellagio · 11/06/2024 07:25

I also think they need to be mindful of which celebs they choose knowing how the audience will react.

from the second AA was announced she was getting badly bullied online due to her previous views (much of this bullying from social media I suspect plays a big part of her alleged ptsd). Also every celeb with previous experience has had the same contentious reaction so choosing someone like Layton was literally putting him in harms way.

for me the producers KNEW that would happen and they should have had a duty of care to protect them.

I don’t mind seeing dancers with previous experience but both Layton and Ashley Roberts had qualifications that could potentially put them as pro dancers (in the same vein as jowita). That’s why they got so much additional complaints from viewers

I think Strictly needs a new production team and judges.

Perhaps I am in the minority with this view, but I think its becoming very samey and more like pantomime, especially with encouragement of booing and shouting over the judge's comments.

Although probably the least qualified in ballroom and Latin, I think Craig is the only judge who gives honest feedback, even though they can be harsh. - I admire what he said to Nikita Kanda about comments to help her rather than break her last year.
Motsi and Shirley are too shrill and clearly have their favourites.

With regards to returning pros, I like all of them but obviously it will be sad that Gio is no longer on the show. Aside from the allegations, I believe he may have outgrown his time at Strictly and was ready to move on anyway.

I do too. I think the production team changed a few years back and that's when it started to get pantomimey and seemingly aimed exclusively at the under-10s
I'm sick of Disney pap in Musicals and Movies week, 10s in about week 3, booing Craig, and I've always hated the intros where they go to a fecking theme park or something. Bring back actual training videos, complete with them having arguments/falling over.

And definitely go back to all the couples doing the same dance and starting with the 'easier' ones and working up to the AT etc. Allocating dances individually just means they can manipulate the outcome by giving people a dance that is obviously going to suit them or trip them up according to what the production team want to happen.

thebellagio · 11/06/2024 10:36

Where I get annoyed is the manipulation from couples choice.

There was no doubt whatsoever that when Bobby Brazier ended up in the bottom two/near to the bottom two that the next week he was going to do a couples choice dedicated to the memory of his mum

and lo and behold, what happened?

He did a dance dedicated to his mum. The judges could never mark down a CC with that sort of backstory. Its so cynical and manipulative.

Agree. I'd be happy with CC if they had to do something from a set few dances (jazz, Bollywood, hip-hop – although the hip-hop ones are often embarrassing), but I'm really sick of the contempowafting and the sob stories.

Having said that, I did like Rose's and Annabel's. I would just say they should all do it in a previously scheduled week, not in response to the previous week's results.

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 11/06/2024 10:54

Rose's would have made an amazing show dance in the final - it didn't need to be a CC.

Roses couples choice just blew everything away - nothing else comes close to the impact of that moment.

The only way to make it fair is to have a couples choice themed week - where everyone does their couples choice the same week. That way marking is fairer - because how else do you score something wit no defined parameters against something like a tango or American smooth?

Or bring back the categories - I loved Gio and Fayes' jazz-themed couples choice. That was phenomenal

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/06/2024 12:12

AnneShirleysNewDress · 10/06/2024 21:38

I'd like them to go back to 2 dances a week - half do the latin, half do the ballroom and save the AT for the semi finals. I also want tail coats and fabulous dresses.

Basically as it was in the days when Len wouldn't stand for any FAFFING ABBART Sad

Dear Len. Gone but not forgotten.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 11/06/2024 13:47

I like the idea of a cc week, about halfway into the competition. It could work really well, especially if Halloween and movie /musicals week (can't remember which one comes first) is jettisoned.

PastorCarrBonarra · 11/06/2024 15:22

I like all the ideas for improvement to make it a bit fresher, and I wish they’d be implemented.

But I think that very young viewers enjoy the Halloween costumes, decorations and ghost paddles, so I’d keep that week in. 🎃

SCD2024 will be here before we know it!

MarkWithaC · 11/06/2024 16:07

I don't mind the theme weeks per se, although they'd be better if there were less infantile music and theme/costume choices.
But the first one (movies?) comes too early on, when there are still a lot of contestants and too many duffers and also-rans.

Stigsmother · 11/06/2024 17:29

I think a CC week would be much fairer, but it would have to change dramatically, as it stands CC is by far my most disliked dance, and a full show of them is too much to contemplate😱😰

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 11/06/2024 18:10

I personally think the sooner Shirley and Motsi are gone the better. They ruin the show for me personally.

Lentilweaver · 11/06/2024 19:04

Anyone going for Legends on the Dance Floor? I am.considering going.

Lentilweaver · 11/06/2024 19:05

In London it's in the Adelphi, so a small theatre and even the cheaper seats will be ok.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 11/06/2024 19:22

Very few dates left now by the look of it :(

This makes me realise how much Giovanni will be missed

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/06/2024 06:19

Giovanni is a big loss to the show, I reckon. One of their best choreographers and a big fan base. I’m not as excited about this year now - I suspect it’s going to be terribly bland with all the pros terrified of upsetting their celebs in case they’ve got the next Amanda. And, oh God, it means Neil’s going to come off the bench, doesn’t it?

This year one of the guys from Diversity is in the ‘rumoured contestants’ list 😂

I mean, I know street dance is VERY different from ballroom and Latin but bloody hell those men can move well.

really? Ffs it’s like the producers WANT the celebs to get trolled.

it’s pretty simple. If your qualifications are such that you could easily join the judging panel or be one of the professionals you shouldn’t be competing!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 12/06/2024 07:16

Diversity? Diversity? How ridiculous. I didn’t enjoy watching Layton’s dances last year no progression. I will miss Giovanni.
