Bobby was fantastic tonight! His QS was phenomenal!

Annabelle didn’t have her best night with that Salsa but I was crying my eyes out when Johannes was giving his speech about how wonderful she is after their VW. I noticed Carlos was crying his eyes out too! I have to say I was shocked that she only got 8’s for her VW considering all the amazing comments she got. It was odd.

Ellie is a good dancer but I have no connection to her. I didn’t think her CC was anything special to be honest.

I’m not going to comment on Leyton’s dances because he shouldn’t be there.

So ideally it would be a Bobby, Annabelle and Ellie final!!

I want Annabelle or Bobby to win…..and after tonight I think Bobby has got the edge!

Yes her overexcited screeching is always what puts me off her!

Me too!! A few years ago someone came at me on twitter when I said Dianne's shrieking when they got through was so annoying and a bit disrespectful to the other couples who were still standing there waiting to hear their result. I was told to p*ss off, that Dianne was just perky and enthusiastic.

Stressybetty · 09/12/2023 21:42

Didn't rate Ellie's CC at all, very odd, DH loved it 🙄

SequinsandStiIettos · 09/12/2023 20:59

She'd have been a lot better with a clean, romantic waltz
Lots of THIS GIRL
Jojo talking of respecting the ballroom/Latin genres interesting

I'm giving 2 votes to Bobby and one to Layton

It's not been the first comment made in that vein. There's been one or two made by the pro when a couple's lost a dance-off.

nettie434 · 09/12/2023 21:43

Gave six votes to Annabel but think she is doomed. I reckon she is second favourite with the public but, realistically, she is going to have to come first in the public vote to avoid the dance-off. I actually preferred that hot mess rollercoaster brink-of-disaster salsa to the Viennese Waltz. I love that slight uptightness to her dancing, like she's the wronged Cotswolds wife in a 1980's ITV Jilly Cooper adaptation and she's getting revenge on her horsey cad husband by faking a romance with a cruise ship dancer whom only she knows is gay. I love it.

I love that description of Annabel's dancing @EsmaCannonball 😀I gave her my 3 votes. I know she's not the best dancer but she has been so determined.

Ellie has been great. I haven't checked to see if she's going on the tour but I think she could also do well if she got an offer to appear in a musical.

Glad to hear Ellie isn't a fluffer.

Come on, Motsi. If you're going to change the lyrics of the song it should be:
Hey, Vito!
How's about it? How's your father?
Hey, Vito!
Sideways? Backwards, if you rather?

Wasn't it good to see a cha cha that you would actually watch again? Ellie is so good at capturing the flavour of the ballroom and latin dances, it's a shame we got that godawful Couple's Choice instead of a tango or a waltz.

Howled at Bobby dragging Dianne across the floor and then realising that the pleather was sticking and so he was going to have to give her an extra little tug every few steps. Loved his 'serious acting' face, which made it look like that forest they were in was located next door to a Thames Water sewage treatment plant and his cape was actually an industrial-strength bin-liner he was using to waft the smell away.

I'm not sure the judges' comments will help endear Layton to the public. I just kept thinking, 'Yes, but he's a professional.' It would be a bit like Annabel entering the Tring Tennis Club Amateur Ladies' Championship. Nikita, however, still looked attractive, even when dressed like Bernard Manning.

Austin Healey...

(Still not really over that.)

Loved Austin! 😭

EvilRingahBitch · 09/12/2023 21:54

First in the public vote won't be enough to save Annabel. I realise that this advice comes too late for anyone to put some tactical votes in, but the only thing that can save her is her coming top and Layton finishing behind Bobby. If Bobby is bottom of the public vote, which I suspect is the case, then Annabel is going home.

m00rfarm · 09/12/2023 21:57

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/12/2023 20:37

He really isn't. He can't touch him
for ballroom and Latin technique (which is what he should be learning!).

I did love that though.

Exactly- he is flashy and when the dance is fast he can whirl very prettily. However, when it comes to some of the finesse, he should be better as he already had the basics in place. He hasn't learnt as much as Annabel for sure, and probably Ellie and Bobby. Which is why the audience has the final say - the judges have to judge what they see. We can judge what we think is fair. And no - he is in no WAY better than Nikita. He loses control and reverts back to stage dancing whenever asked to do something technical.

I was wondering if the 8s were calculated to raise the public vote for her, the studio audience certainly weren't happy about it.

Doubt it. You could apply the same logic to others who have been bottom of the leaderboard but they have all left.

PastorCarrBonarra · 09/12/2023 22:07

I think that Annabel’s oddly lowish VW score (I was expecting 9999 or 8999) will have galvanised lots of viewers to vote for her for the sake of fairness (in their eyes). But she was the weakest today I suppose, and deserves to finish this weekend. Bobby pulled a rabbit out of the hat at the right time. He and the other two were quite a bit better than Annabel.

Would’ve enjoyed a final with the four of them tbh. They all bring plenty to the table. And it would have been genuinely hard to predict who would lift the glitterball.

See Jake Wood, Anita Rani

Ah that makes sense. Thanks

Yes, it never seems quite right to me that the public vote doesn't necessarily count for much at this stage. Purely from the viewpoint of making a successful television show, you'd think they'd put who the public most wanted to see into the final.

Vito's bottom is getting a LOT of love on Twitter tonight, think it needs it's own Twitter handle!😂

dollybird · 09/12/2023 22:45

Bobby's pado left me cold. Much preferred Nigel's.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/12/2023 22:46

Well, Anton, Vincent and Flavia have all won Rear of the Year...

OP posts:
Clawdy · 09/12/2023 23:11

Bobby was great. Voted for him, and Annabel.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/12/2023 23:24

Thanks for the excellent - and occasionally educational - commentary.

Semi-finals are always a bit of a let down.

Bobby's QS was good, but hated the paso.

Didn't like either of Layton's dances. Thought the rumba lacked fluidity and emotion, and the Charleston was out of sync with scrappy tricks/lifts. Need to watch the O'Connor/Kelly version now.

Annabel's salsa would have scored well in week 6; not so great at this stage. Her VW was beautiful and ridiculously undermarked. They need to make it less obvious when the producers want someone to leave (though she is the weakest and I think she'll go home).

Ellie's CCC was fine, but I was disappointed in her CC. Wonder if Vito has choreographed music videos.

StillWantingADog · 09/12/2023 23:29

Storynanny1 · 09/12/2023 20:38

I don’t think it was the best ever. I loved Giovanni and Faye’s charleston

Yes. Also Caroline Flack’s.

StillWantingADog · 09/12/2023 23:45

Quite clear IMO that this is Annabel’s turn to go, her salsa was dodgy tonight though her VW was lovely and she’s clearly done very well indeed for a lady of a certain age! A nice one too by all accounts

I would not be astonished to see Layton in the DO though. I mean he’s clearly the best but I doubt being that good gets you that many public votes. He has avoided it thus far though, in part by always being near the top in terms of judge’s votes. I really do hope he doesn’t win

Bobby had a great night tonight. Ellie not so much though she’s been great most of the time. Bobby could yet win, though my money’s probably on Ellie as long as she does something better than that couples choice for the show dance.

chocolateisavegetable · 09/12/2023 23:52

Absolutely loved Layton’s Charleston and can’t wait to see him in the final.

Anisette · 10/12/2023 00:04

I wasn't that sold on Layton's Charleston. Technically it was was good, but because he's not a natural comedian he just doesn't do the slightly goofy aspect of it convincingly.

Oh, me neither. I still revert to his jive occasionally for a bit of comfort-YouTubing.
