They filmed some scenes before he passed last year iirc

Oh how lovely

How I thought he was dead?!

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit apparently it was the last thing he filmed. I was super shocked but Whovian DH explained

SequinsandStiIettos · 02/12/2023 19:28

“The Star Beast” shoot began on May 9 2022.
Bernard Cribbins, who plays Donna’s grandfather Wilf, returned to film scenes for a later episode that turned out to be the final scenes he ever filmed, as he sadly passed away in July 2022 at the age of 93.

That was a great episode, so fast moving (and a bit scary with the arms and teeth))
So lovely to see Bernard Cribbins one last time.

MayIDestroyYou · 02/12/2023 19:40

Loved that!

(Particularly the ‘Girl Who Waited’ ref. That was one of my favourite ever.)

And, of course, the teaser for next week was - the most epic sight in the whole history of TV.

WingingItSince1973 · 02/12/2023 20:01

Loved this episode. Much better than last week. Just watching the first Dr and Donna episode as my dgs has never seen them. They look so young ❤️

Silence1 · 02/12/2023 20:03

Another one who loved it

cantsleepinbed · 02/12/2023 20:57

Agreed, definitely better than last weeks. Writing was much much tighter.

Quite intense, too.

Will need a second watch.

Samcro · 02/12/2023 21:00

I loved it.

FrostyFlo · 02/12/2023 21:01

Not feeling it with these last episodes , however I found this one quite disturbing.
Those with children , did it scare them ?

Watched it myself tonight to see if it would be appropriate for DS 5 to watch tomorrow because he really wants to! I think he'll find it scary so won't let him.

Ohmych · 03/12/2023 07:39

My 8 year old DD was terrified and spent a lot of time hiding under a blanket. She still wanted to watch it though.

EvilRingahBitch · 03/12/2023 14:52

Enjoyed that a lot, slightly hampered because my inner pedant was triggered by the opening sequence and spent the whole of the rest of the episode screaming "Isaac Newton did not invent the word Gravity! He would have totally understood the Doctor and Donna saying "he doesn't appreciate the gravity of the situation" - he just wouldn't have understood why it was a joke!" so I had to spare a certain amount of time telling her to shut up and enjoy the show.

Also (and feel free to look away now if you don't want the episode spoiled completely) it suffers from the Raiders of the Lost Ark problem in that Donna and the Doctor's presence in the plot made precisely no difference. If they hadn't turned up then the Captain's plan would have proceeded seamlessly and the ship would have exploded and killed the monsters.

SaltySeaCat · 03/12/2023 14:56

I watched it from behind a cushion!

SonicAllanKey · 03/12/2023 19:09

I spotted that @EvilRingahBitch but then I thought… go back to the glitchy tardis which chucked them there. The tension was they would have died if they hadn’t worked it out but working it out almost released the monsters to the universe. The story wasn’t them stopping anything, but finding a way out.

SurelySmartie · 03/12/2023 20:31

Really loved that one, better than last week and really innovative storytelling.
