The problem I have with the business end of the show is that the producers have too much power. If you are at the bottom of the leaderboard it becomes incredibly difficult mathematically to escape the dance-off. Suddenly the dance genre you get, your position in the running order, and the judges' scores become very important, and it's hard for the viewers to rescue the person at the bottom.
It is going to be annoying if Layton knocks out journey contestants, but the main issue last night was Bobby being placed above danger when, imo, he should have been bottom of the leaderboard.
