And if you've now seen it, what are your thoughts?

I'm predicting I will love it no matter what. But look forward to discussing it.

The man turned into a puppet was terrifying!

Was he the same actor playing Isaac Newton last week?

I assumed it was just the way some families use the term uncle or aunt for close family friends. Mel also decided she was Aunty Mel.
hmm, maybe, but then why brother-in-law and all that? maybe it was just a joke.

I thought it was nothing more than him seeing Donna as a sister. So her husband is his BIL and their daughter is his niece. Just a way of saying they were his family.

TripleDaisySummer · 10/12/2023 15:47

Casting was good with Neil Patrick Harris though his acting was 'interesting' at times.

Do you mean the bad German accent then Count Olaf voice - it felt odd to me watching it but I wondered if it was some point being made about world wars and British empire badness.

Interview program afterwards said it was in the script - with spelling to show accent - said it was to do with original Toy Maker being played by a European actor dressed up as Chinese - kids seem to think it made sort of sense I was making tea and confused by celestial apparently meaning Chinese in a racist way when I though it meant heaven / heavenly body from old french/latin word.

No - Isaac Newton is played by Nathaniel Curtis and Charlie De Melo was puppet.

greengreengrass25 · 10/12/2023 15:52

Thanks

Terfosaurus · 10/12/2023 15:55

I knew I recognised the puppet! I meant to Google him and then forgot.

SoundTheSirens · 10/12/2023 18:11

What happens if something happens to 14 and he ends up in mortal peril during his little Earthbound interlude? Does he regenerate again, or will he die?

Ellmau · 10/12/2023 18:12

It is, but Celestial Empire is a (translated) term used to apply to historic China.

Rummikub · 10/12/2023 18:22

I liked it.

But not sure about the “do you come in a range of colours”

Also who picked up the gold tooth at the end?

Laughingravy · 10/12/2023 19:14

From everything I've read about the third of the 60th trilogy I fear to watch it now. Like PP have remarked it's a Sci-Fi series. If I wanted to be preached at I'd watch soap operas or dramas.

Dr Who should be escapist hokum. I don't want it with added message - especially if it involves Davros no longer being in a 'wheelchair', and in anywise taking such a dumb idea to it's logical conclusion surely the Daleks should no longer be maniacal pepper pots because those tin suits house a former humanoid species. Not to mention who decided it was okay to deny the disabled the right to be evil? Utter utter nonsense.

And though I thought the second of the three was more Dr Who of old I fear for what will happen with Disney involved. Sure the look will be fantastic but it sounds like they're gearing up for spin-offs - all on message no doubt. Urgh...

SoupDragon · 10/12/2023 19:28

I didn't feel "preached at" in the slightest.

BezMills · 10/12/2023 19:30

I enjoyed it. Best of the three

beguilingeyes · 10/12/2023 20:27

There was nothing 'preachy' in that episode. Just a romp. I liked Ncuti immediately. Bags of charisma.
I am sick to death of David Tennant and really don't want to see him again. As someone said, his last episode of his first rum with all the 'I don't want to go' business was too much.

Firefly2009 · 10/12/2023 21:25

I think I might be done with Doctor Who.

And I don't know what it is, but 14 is just not the same as 10 - I think it's the writing and not DT. I just don't feel like him or NG are the Doctor. I'm putting it down to RD and Disney.

I liked the second of the three specials the most. The other two were just meh. I so want to love it, but I just don't. RIP Doctor Who.
It just doesn't make sense anymore, and the writers don't care. No explanation for bi-regeneration, just like the timeless child made absolutely no bloody sense.
I hate it. It's like these writers are just bored and entertaining themselves by doing whatever they feel like.

What happens if 14 gets mortally injured on one of his outings with Unit? He dies, or regenerates, or what?

There are no answers to these kinds of questions.
The reason: the writer(s) haven't thought about it. Because - they don't care!

Same, if that was in any episode it was the first. Didn't get it at all last night.

Rummikub · 10/12/2023 21:41

Wouldn’t it be the same explanation as for Jo Martin‘s Doctor?

I liked DT’s doctor. But don’t think he would park at Donna’s. Perhaps he is on standby 🤷🏽‍♀️

Firefly2009 · 10/12/2023 21:44

Isn't Jo Martin's Doctor from before the 1st Doctor's time? Eventually she (or her successors) regenerated into William Hartnell's doctor.

Rummikub · 10/12/2023 21:52

Oh i have no idea how she fits in. It just seemed similar to me.

CaveMum · 10/12/2023 22:17

RTD is a Buffy fan: the 2 Doctors is parallel to the 2 Slayers.

Buffy died so Kendra was called; when Kendra died Faith was called, but when Buffy died (again!) no new Slayer. So I’m assuming the Doctor line continues with 15, and 14 no longer carries it forward.

Don't you think you're jumping ship a bit soon?
You want answers to big storyline questions that were introduced in the final minutes of a final episode!
Am sure they'll expand on the explanations I'm upcoming episodes, I'd give the new series a chance, at least!

noblegiraffe · 10/12/2023 22:22

We've now got two doctors - i'm sure we'll get a evolutionary explaination because his species is endangered at some point. And I wonder what happens in terms of memory

But this was explained? 15 is the Doctor after 14 and he is going to be a chilled out Doctor because 14 did the rehab to overcome all the trauma - the rehab is 14 going to live with Donna so hadn't happened yet, but has to happen because it already happened for 15.

greengreengrass25 · 10/12/2023 22:28

Why were they in that beautiful garden and house at the end

I thought Donna lived in a terraced house

StBrides · 10/12/2023 22:29

Donna accepted a 120k a year job at unit, and the house was the only thing she bought with her lottery win so she's not hard up.

I think she bought it with the lottery money she didn't give away?

greengreengrass25 · 10/12/2023 22:30

Ahh did they change that as I thought she'd given it away in the first episode?
