EXPOSED The Ghost Train Fire (Netflix)

Has anyone seen this? It's such an excellent documentary about the horrendous fire at Lunar Park in 1979 that killed numerous children and a parent.

I knew nothing about this story before watching this and from the trailer I assumed it's all a bunch of conspiracy theories about a tragic accident. How wrong I was. This documentary is excellent and the outcome that this was an obvious coverup is very clear. It's absolutely outrageous and the people responsible (and those who covered it up) are pure evil.

This is brilliant, I watched it when it first came out on Australian tv. The journalist is fantastic. Such a tragic cover up by the police.

efeslight · 19/11/2023 10:11

Thank you for the recommendation, can't remember what it was called, but Storyville made a great documentary about a similar disaster and the cover up afterwards

userxx · 19/11/2023 10:12

Thanks for this 👍

The findings in Episode 3 in particular were so clear it's almost beyond belief. How could all the people involved sleep at night knowing who the victims were?!?

Yes I watched it! I was surprised by just how many people were interviewed who said this was the first time they'd spoken about it. The journalist definitely did a very thorough job. Felt so so sad for those parents and the woman who lost her whole family.

The journalist did an incredibly thorough job finding all those people after 40 years and I'm quite surprised so many were willing to be interviewed about it.

The parents and that poor woman were just horrific to watch. I don't really know how she could find the strength to go on living after that. Why couldn't those bastards just take the very last train so that there would be no victims?!?

Thanks for recommending this. I watched it all today. It was so gripping, jaw dropping and an excellent watch.

I gave it up 3/4 of the way through the first episode and read the story instead. Felt like way too much filler in there for me.
One of the few Netflix documentaries I’ve ever given up.

scaredofff · 19/11/2023 23:06

Marking as I'm going to watch tonight in bed - thanks for reminding me!

GlitchStitch · 19/11/2023 23:12

I binged the whole thing yesterday, found it fascinating and so sad. The sheer volume of evidence of corruption and a cover up was shocking.

TheaBrandt · 19/11/2023 23:15

So awful and sad. Those young boys and the little family suffered horrendous deaths for some corrupt rich men to get even richer. How did those responsible live with themselves?

It gets so good. Episode 3 gives a full explanation of who was behind the fire and why and how it was all covered up.

I honestly don't know 😥but it appears that the rich men lived quite happily with themselves whilst those poor families were destroyed. The poor woman who lost her entire family in front of her eyes - it's actually unbearable to even think about it. If there is a hell those responsible (and those who covered it up) would most certainly be in it.

I just don't understand why they had to burn down the park whilst people were still on the ride. Could they not have done it after everyone had left or taken the very last carriage behind everyone so there would be no victims?!?

Such a great documentary but so tragic. I assume they did it because they wanted people to get hurt so the park would be closed? They wanted the land for development?

My brothers went to the same school as the boys and it was talked about a lot within the school by everyone. Just so incredibly sad and unnecessary.

cheshirecatssmile · 21/11/2023 12:38

Omg just finished watching this.
The poor families and survivors.
And the corruption. Heart breaking

But a cliff hanger of sorts , does anyone know if this has been put forward for reinvestigation?

TheaBrandt · 21/11/2023 18:00

Just when you think it couldn’t get worse then losing a young child that poor poor lady who lost both hers and the husband. Her life basically destroyed for others greed.

Omg it was unbearable to listen to her. How she said they were saving for so long and planning to go on this holiday which normally people from their village don’t get to go on. And how they could have so easily gone home because it was getting late, but she still had last tickets in her hand and how they could have all just gone for ice cream with her instead on that ride. 😭

And those 4 boys could have survived if they had been let on that ride that closed in front of them - instead of the Ghost Train 😔

Unfortunately I couldn’t find anything about it being reopened 😔

I wish I hadn't seen it, it was horrific.

Colinorpercy · 04/02/2024 00:03

I’ve just happened upon this today, only on episode 1 but how absolutely heartbreaking it is. That poor woman that lost her family 😰.

userxx · 06/02/2024 21:46

I felt so sorry for the parents, part of me feels like it would have been better for them to continue thinking it was a tragic accident.

RightOnTheEdge · 06/02/2024 21:59

It's absolutely shocking! The way the police covered it up afterwards and the site being cleared so quickly. Those poor, poor victims and their families Sad
