This is getting a lot of publicity, and looks like it could be interesting. A SciFi crime drama.

Here's a review that maybe has a few spoilers. https://www.ft.com/content/498d44f5-bb87-44cb-a785-f1322911b047

First two episodes on Disney+ in the UK from November 14, then new episodes weekly. On FX and Hulu in the US

Ohhh I'll look it up 👍

Just started watching this and the first episode was great. Really enjoying it and loving the fabulous hotel. Joan Chen I remember from Twin Peaks and the background/incidental music has the same sort of atmospheric brooding vibe as that. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series.

IwantToRetire · 18/11/2023 23:25

I've watched both episodes shown so far. I was a bit put off at the start as the plot and characters seemed really similar to something I watched a few years ago.

But got intrigued, and although I found the whole hotel set up a bit far fetched, maybe this is what billionaires do with their money!

Now really interested in how the plot develops.

My only gripe is that if they are going to use text messages as part of the plot development that really need to show them as sub titles. We dont all have 20ft tv! So on an ordinary domestic tv, the texts are impossible to read!

Really glad, although I hadn't meant to, that I let my Disney+ subscription renews!

Have now watched episode 3 and am wondering if in fact it is yet another interpretation of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None!

Should also say that my OP refers to it being SciFi - which it isn't in case this putting anyone off. But it is about advanced technology.

And apart from the plot and the acting, I really like the way it is filmed, or is it the lighting?

I'm really enjoying it. Very odd characters but intriguing

IwantToRetire · 29/11/2023 17:41

I really enjoyed last nigth's episode.

Lots of scenarios I would never have imagined, and do think it is filmed well, though could have done with a bit less endless skidooing through snow.

It's really kicking up a gear now. Loved Vivaldi's Winter at the end, also.

thedukeofbuckinghamshire · 05/12/2023 22:08

I'm really enjoying it. Can't wait to find out how it ends. Emma Corrin is just a brilliant actress.

iloveredwine · 06/12/2023 08:35

Really enjoying it. Some surprises and cant wait to see how it all comes together.

IwantToRetire · 06/12/2023 17:37

I am not sure why but I am now finding our "heroine" just a tiny bit irritating.

But yes enjoyed the last episode. Intriguing plot and wonderful sets and filming.

But given the number of guests who have now met an untimely death, would the remaining guests just casually meet up outside the (limited) safety of their own room.

Are we meant to think that Eva (hope I've got the name right) didn't know that Bill was the biological father of her son? Is it going to turn out she if the murdered because she thinks her husband has just gone too far?

My other thought is that it is going to be like Hal in 2001 a space odessy, and the bodyless voice that is the virtual assistant is the culprit!!

I wondered if rohan was bills dad and they and David were trying to get something on Andy? Or they are all AI apart from Darby

iloveredwine · 07/12/2023 16:24

And yes im finding Darby quite annoying too. Why the hell would you take pills then go into the pool when you know there is a murderer around especially with a head injury

IwantToRetire · 07/12/2023 17:16

Interesting ideas - so many possible plotlines.

Also have to say I dont quite "get" Clive Owen's character or maybe his back story.

Is it just that he has made a lot of money out of AI and is now using that money to pursue a personal dream, or is in some way political?

Did anyone else think the robot things looked like reindeer from a distance?! Grin

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 07/12/2023 17:19

I'm intrigued by the tracking of the serial killer back story more than the present .

I wonder how/if they will intersect.

silverxylophone · 07/12/2023 22:15

I think I just like the scenery. It is back to being dull and hard to follow, as I have no recall of or interest in any of the supporting characters. Darby's amazing detective work seems to involve blurting obvious questions to her latest suspect, or filling them in on what she knows without any forethought of finesse. She goes into the dark pool room alone and then hops in the water to warm up, when there is a repeat killer on the loose who seems to want her dead...

The hotel makes no sense. It has lockdowns, where people can go out the back door of their rooms. It tracks people here, but not there. It's some billionaire's building, that runs out of power for heating...

Chrysanthemum5 · 09/12/2023 10:38

I'm enjoying it and find it pretty gripping. Parts of it are ridiculous though (such as Darby going for a swim to wam up when she has medical blankets etc for combating hypothermia in her room) and the special effects are dodgy. The robots looked very fake.

I do think Emma Corin is a good actor but I am reminded of how she talks about how hard it is for her to find roles because she's is non-binary. And she does that in front of people who actually will find it hard to get roles because they are not white or middle class like she is.

silverxylophone · 09/12/2023 10:45

I don' think her acting is up to much; it's pretty one-note, and she has terrible enunciation. I was surprised to read Corrin's mother was a speech therapist.

FuckYouEzekiel · 09/12/2023 11:38

I thought Darby would have spent more time chasing up why her and Sian had their helmets back on after the accident.
When they had removed them and put them both on the back seat just before they rolled down the hill.

silverxylophone · 09/12/2023 11:59

Only Sian put her helmet back on to drag the unconscious Darby as she walked through the snow back to the hotel. I vaguely recall she left Darby's off for some medical reason. The way the camera lingered on the helmets after they put them in the back seat, I guess the inference was they got mixed up in the accident and Sian put on Darby's previously worn helmet and the death by suffocation was meant for Darby not her.

FuckYouEzekiel · 09/12/2023 12:15

Oh! I missed that, thank you!

IwantToRetire · 13/12/2023 18:10

I quite enjoyed last nights episode, probably because it was more about Lee and explains why she is where she is. But upsetting.

Still doesn't help me understand the Clive Owen character except he obviously isn't nice.

I dont really like the part of the story of tracking down serial killers. Just too weird and means there is to much of Bill, who is quite unappealing IMO!

How many more episodes?

OP posts:
iloveredwine · 13/12/2023 20:26

Its the last one next week. Not sure which of them it is and wonder how the serial killer fits in to the group

2023usernameNew · 14/12/2023 08:02

Just one more episode?

it’s been so slow in terms of solving the murders.

I actually find Bill very attractive (despite his haircut), I would have totally fallen for him in my Teenage years.
