This is desperate. If you're a parent please be as horrified as I am. Rochdale groomers still at it.

I was also surprised and outraged that HMRC has not pursued the gang leader and his huge, non declared income. Jesus if I didn’t fill in my returns on my small side hustle they’d be right on to me. That plus the small sentence he got- 2 1/2 years for masterminding a vicious gang that has destroyed countless lives. I can only hope they try and get at him via the proceeds of crime Act.

Sheisready · 01/11/2023 19:04

I was also shocked they didn't prosecute him for the unpaid taxes or ill-gotten gains. Something was going through the restaurant books. Does this mean he'll be coming out to all his money and lifestyle as normal?

How the bent cop didn't get done for crimes and by professional standards amazes me. I'm guessing she's no longer a serving officer.

Poor, brave Cameron :(

TheGander · 01/11/2023 19:24

I really hope they go after his ill gotten gains somehow. Also amazed at the bent cop getting away with it.
Felt under a cloud all day because of poor Cameron, what he and his parents went through is horrendous. I hope the cops involved are all ok psychologically and safety wise.
Really compelling viewing and impressed at the level of access the BBC managed to get.

Just finished watching this. Extremely scary. Very grateful to the brave police who investigate.
I’m absolutely heartbroken for the family of Cameron Brooksbank. What a courageous young man. Can’t imagine what the family, his co workers and friends have been through. It’s so horrendous. May he RIP.

lochmaree · 01/11/2023 19:47

I've just started watching. For anyone interested more broadly, the book "Good Cop, Bad War" is really interesting. As are interviews from Neil Ryan (author of the book) which are freely available on YouTube/ podcast platforms.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 01/11/2023 21:27

We're watching at TV pace - it's like Line of Duty. The people who deal with this day in day out are so brave.

Iprefercoffee · 01/11/2023 21:28

How do I get in to this field even as a volunteer? I’m currently in my 4th year at university doing criminology and psychology and then do a masters In serious crime and violence

DeadBugMountainClimber · 01/11/2023 21:37

@Iprefercoffee What field? Policing? Specifically policing organised gangs? Police forces run recruitment campaigns for graduates often where you can be fast tracked into certain depts. In the meantime, volunteering for something like Victim Support would probably be helpful. TBH, your university should be able to point you in the right direction.

Not the Jasper Carrot and that bloke who played Jesus series then

LakeTiticaca · 01/11/2023 23:13

These people are utter scum.
They have no regard for human life whatsoever

Though watching some of that as light relief might be an idea after this. If some of if these scumbags actually did an honest day's work they could probably make a worthwhile contribution to society. I thought the modern slavery angle in a lot of what was going on was really interesting.

IlikePinaColada84 · 01/11/2023 23:55

RIP Cameron 😢

Iprefercoffee · 02/11/2023 00:43

Thank you

ceecee32 · 02/11/2023 06:29

I've not been able to get thos out of my mind since I watched it yesterday. So sad to hear about Cameron, what a brave man.

SimBa123UK · 02/11/2023 13:21

This was riveting and what a credit the young lad and police were. Unbearably sad for Cameron.

I saw it said she wasn't charged but does anyone know if the corrupt police officer still worked in policing as I find that hard to believe if so ?

TheGander · 02/11/2023 14:11

They said she now works for the Met ( if I remember correctly).

moggerhanger · 02/11/2023 16:37

I have just finished watching on iPlayer. Couldn't help crying about poor Cameron (and I never cry about the deaths of people I've never met and don't know). Such a brave and decent young man. I had no idea he was only 17 when he was attacked.

Iprefercoffee · 02/11/2023 16:42

Not exactly

Heartening to know that the Met have really tightened up their recruitment process Hmm

The drug empire is probably still being run from prison cells. So depressing. What scum.
The detectives really put themselves on the line doing that sort of work. It is so sad about Cameron - a decent young man from a loving family whose life was utterly ruined by those evil people.

LizzieSiddal · 02/11/2023 20:51

Gosh just finished episode 3, so many emotions. Poor Cameron, he really was a brave man. I feel sorry for him and his lovely parents.

I couldn’t believe the main man only got 3 years, he’ll already be out and about doing the same thing probably.

SimBa123UK · 03/11/2023 09:51

TheGander · 02/11/2023 14:11

They said she now works for the Met ( if I remember correctly).

I'd be amazed if this is true ; couldn't find anything online to verify it.

How on Earth could they twist their heads around keeping her on the payroll, she is as guilty as those in jail, possibly worse as a cop ?

TheGander · 03/11/2023 18:38

@SimBa123UK you’re correct. I’ve just checked on iPlayer. It said “ after an investigation no charges were brought against the police officer “ nothing about her working for the Met. Must have imagined that.

Jay2023 · 09/11/2023 03:11

I think its weird the boss only got a couple of years and directly threatened the life of the lead policeman to the camera... how can he do that and not get charged with threats to kill? Madness!

newnamethanks · 09/11/2023 08:42

So corrupt. There it is, right in front of us. Look at the expense and effort over a protracted period of time that the police spent on this, only for it to be treated almost as lightly as a traffic offence,. Disgusting.
