For anyone who watch Longmire this is sort of the complete reversal.

ie the focus in on what used to be called the work of the "Tribal Police" with some overlap with US state police etc.

I dont know how representative this is but the series is said to have been made by Native Americans with the backing of Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin.

I am already confused as I usually am when dramas use the two different timeline story telling.

But think it might appeal to some who are bored with UK crime dramas. Or liked Longmire (though not as yet any dodgy moment which Longmire often had).

I watchd it on Alibi via Virign Media but for some reason it isn't on the Alibi web site.

According to the Guardian "Dark Winds aired on Alibi and is available in the UK on Sky, Virgin and NOW. In Australia, it is available on SBS On Demand."

Dark Winds review – this brooding Navajo murder mystery begs to be binged

A tribal police lieutenant teams up with the FBI in a knotty, atmospheric drama that’s largely populated by indigenous talent – including Reservation Dogs’s terrific Zahn McClarnon

About to start this show this weekend. Haven’t heard of Longmire but will have a look. The tribal police features heavily in Yellowstone.

I'm about half way through series 1. And as ever am confused by plot but think I am understanding a bit more.

And it is good to be able to have a series in which Indegenous Americans aren't just drunk or committing petty crime. And it is interesting to see customs and rituals shown as part of daily life.

Longmire doesn't seem to be available to stream in the UK, but it maybe part of any on demand service.

Some of it was quite questionable, and at one time I thought it was really about male angst and expectations, and too many women suffering while they slogged their way through it.

But was intriguing. With good plots and cast.

However, I thought Yellowstone was rubbish!

I think I watched 1 and a bit expisodes and just couldn't be bothered with it.

But back to Dark Winds, I wonder why Alibi is making it available via UKTV. You would think they would want to promote it, as it has mainly had good reviews.

I'm obsessed with Longmire and I love the actor who played Matthias so I had high hopes for this.

Got five minutes in and DP said 'is this the A Team?' due to the ropy effects and daytime telly production values.

I'll watch the rest when he isn't around to scoff but the pretend helicopter at the beginning reminded me of a Thunderbirds puppet.

I may have mislead you. My OP meant that the story setting was sort of the opposite of Longmire.

And I did find the helicopter bit unconvincing, let alone the head of police driving round in a car with its chassis 2 or 3 feet higher than the top of the wheels!

Have finished watching now, and thought they way the crime was solved was a bit too neat, and more about providing a launch pad for series 2.

I wonder if in series 2 they are a bit braver about some of the darker issues for those living in Tribal Lands?

But still found it interesting to watch, and much better that so many of the repetitive 9pm slot dramas that are shown every week on main stream tv.

Me and DH loved this and binged over a few days. We had previously read all the Tony Hillerman books on which the series is based.

I'm now desperate to watch S2 but can't find it on UK TV - it was listed on Paramount+ but then comes up as unavailable. If anyone knows how to get it, give me a shout!
